I buy <STRIKE>100% pure</STRIKE> elderberry extract powder (Bulksupplements brand from amazon) and I take about 1/2 teaspoon everyday starting in the month of October...when the flu season starts. Just mix it in with my green drink (it dissolves completely) along with some other stuff I add to my 'cocktail' of supps.

ETA - That elderberry extract has some dextrin added to it but it doesn't say how much but that's the only other ingredient listed on the label.

My husband and I started taking elderberry juice at the start of the pandemic. We are 72 and felt we needed all the immunity we could get. I get ours from The Elderberry Company. Google it and you can find their website. I had heard you had to be careful and get the full berry strength and this company has it. We now take their chews. We never got Covid so we did something right. This was before the vaccine was available.

Elderberry has a two-prong approach when it comes to it's health benefits. One thing it does is inhibit the early stages of viral infection by blocking viral proteins needed to infect us. Elderberry also boosts our immune response by providing us with multiple antioxidants found in the berries. These antioxidants absorb free radicals ( those are bad substances formed in our bodies when an infection or other negative acting things happen to us) and in the process allows our immune system to work at its optimal speed and efficiency leading to less inflammation and promoting cell health.

Taken as a supp elderberry can work both as an antimicrobial as well as an antioxidant.
