UPDATE - post re: dr billing wrong

Instead of this getting buried in my OP.

The Drs. Office Manager called me today. I was absolutely right the person "coding" in their office did incorrectly bill & yes there is NO copay for his visit.

They are resubmitting to insurance under the correct service and the office manager sent me confirmation letter of the error.

Glad I questioned it and yes I would have paid it if she indicated it was correct. It's not worth losing this doctor due to "the office staff" error.

@homedecor1 glad it all worked out. I didn't post on your original Thread but I was hoping that if you did not hear from the Office Manager that you would get in touch with the Insurance Co. Some people think that since it's the Insurance Co. paying, that it's ok and yes, I've heard this over the years.

@homedecor1. Happy it was corrected for you. Medical billing is all about coding. Entering a wrong number or using the wrong modifier can totally change what will or will not be paid. If something seems off always question it. 9 out of 10 times the coding was incorrect.

Mistakes happen to and by everyone. I'm sure you've also made some. $10 is not a big deal in the realm of life events, is it? Calm down and carry on.

@homedecor1 Good that you investigated and followed through. I'm only recently beginning to look at medical bills and insurance......was able to get a refund on recent dental work. So important to review medical billing...thanks for your posts.

@homedecor1 I read your original post and the various comments but did not weigh in.

It shows that medical billing is so easily miscoded. I understood your point and I'm happy with the outcome for you.

It makes me wonder how many times things are submitted to Medicare or other insurance that are incorrect.

Especially difficult to decipher bills after a hospital stay. Some come from the hospital itself and some from separate physicians.

I understood your point of view--not the dollar amount per se but the fact that it was incorrect. Now the person in the office who did the miscoding will, hopefully, do it correctly. Wonder if the office will correct prior mistakes in this category and reimburse those due refunds . . .

I am calm and reality is it is a big deal. insurance companies review claims and insurance companies look for "duplicate" charges, what if, while he's hospitalized this doctor claimed same charges would we be obligated.

Case in point, we received denial for CT scans needed...why??? Service was authorized less than 90 days ago by lung specialist yet was not done, therefore, when pulmonary doctor wanted it done last week was denied. had to call & explain to insurance to get new authorization.

Either way I'm staying on top of all medical bills and processing of them. And frankly, maybe $10 to you is no big deal but multiply it by others who pay it without questioning = big $$$

Thank you for thinking of "us" he came home yesterday evening. We shall see how well he does. Since his immune system is compromised he seems to get pneumonia a lot.

Just taking it "one day at a time" ...lol

Medical billing errors are so time consuming to try and get corrected. Going thru similar myself and have learned to get names and save emails. Bad enough to go thru the medical procedure(s), but then to have to bird dog every bill...sigh. Glad you were able to get this one corrected.

Did you ever wonder how many items are coded incorrectly, but just "get paid" so we never question them?

I have a Doctor friend who went to a 'class' to learn how to code to the codes that pay the most for the same procedure!

It's not all black and white!

We only question if it affects our pocket book!

@Zhills I had a friend who was an OBGYN in Florida with his own practice. His wife was in charged of everything because she didn't trust anyone.

There were problems with the Billing and an audit was done. She blamed it on coding and I must say it involved a large amount of money over the years.

He couldn't practice in Florida anymore and had to move to NY where he got a job at a hospital. That was the end of the marriage. It was all about money for her.

@homedecor1 we'll never know how often it's happened at that office. Only when someone questions it, it's always blamed on Coding.
