Update on upcoming surgery.

My wife met with the nerosergeon last Friday. She's not getting a stent put in. In the back of her head there's an area that's draining fluid. No stent but there doing it differently. Its hard for me to explain it. But she will be getting like an 8 inch cut down her head and neck. Surgeon told her I. Going to give it to you straight. When you wake up you will be really sick. Your going to feel the worst pain you ever felt. And you will be vomiting alot. You will be in the icu at first. She's scheduled for surgery on October 12.

Wow doc sure did give it to you straight. I'm sorry your wife is going to suffer some but im glad she is in good hands and has a supportive husband

I am hoping all goes well for your wife. Many years ago I had a very extensive and tricky surgery. The surgeon was very honest and told me I would wake up and vomiting and in a lot of pain. That is exactly what happened. I appreciated his honesty, I was prepared but of course, recovery was hard. What helped me was that my husband never left my side, he had a sleeper chair in my hospital room. That made a world of difference to me. I would wake up in intense pain and and confusion and I'd see him, He was my comfort. The days and nights of my hospital stay are a blur but my husbands support is a precious memory. I hope you can do the same for your wife and that she recovers quickly!

@Pooky1 I'm sorry y'all have to go through such painful surgery, but your wife's Dr. sounds like he's being knowledgeable and informative.

Actually her surgeon is a woman. Top nerosergeon in the country. We were lucky to have the top nerosergeon in little Rhode Island. I thank all of you for your well wishes and prayers. There all very appreciated.

Hope you find it reassuring that your wife's surgeon has such a wonderful reputation.

My dear little grandson's surgery was performed by a nationally recognized surgeon and as frightened as we were, knowing that was a source of encouragement for us.

I hope that you and she will remain positive and take each small positive step forward as a victory.

I saw his post for the first time this morning, early. Firstly, I can't tell you how sorry I am for your plight.

This may sound "odd" but I'm praying that the doctor will find another way to treat this issue, (I don't know what it is) and that it won't be as bad as he first thought.

She has some weeks before the scheduled date.

I had to have a modified mastectomy and I was terrified but I was simply asked if I could tolerate sedation and luckily sedation doesn't bother me however, when I awoke, I was temporarily blind and my other senses were very vague. I remember a voice way in the distance asking me if I was queasy which i was. After they gave me anti nausea medicine IV, I felt much better. I was in recovery. From no memory at all, I remember being wheeled into a room, brightly lit all my senses were back on board, they had me on a respirator because of heavy sedation. As they moved me from recovery to a room, I felt hungry and thirsty. I was only in some pain if I moved around. I asked...oooh can I sit by the window? They said sure, let us get you set up and we'll get you a menu. It was around 7:00pm. They injected pain medicine which felt like a punch in the chest. I did not ask for it, the doctor ordered it. I felt fine just small pain but I ate, drank, was watching TV. I was in a wonderful hospital. I was sitting up with the TV remote in my hand watching the traffic out the window. They came in and said would you like to lay down and go to sleep? I said no, I'm good like I am. They wanted me to sleep but I felt more at home the way I was. My husband came and got me the next day. Support is SO SO crucial. Medical issues scare me the most. They could not believe how well I recovered. I was so afraid, I cried like a baby. Now, I know your wife's issue is much more serious than mine was.

I will continue to ask Almighty GOD to give the surgeon insight as to a better way to tackle the issue so that your wife suffers minimally.

I mean well. I DO know that ALL things are possible with GOD. Please keep us posted. My father had to have open heart surgery decades ago when by-pass surgery was in its infancy. He made it through but it was extremely rough on me. My sisters are somewhat cold but I'm just a softy. I supported my mother 100% and that helped tremendously, the situation. He had to have the surgery in NY hospital and I don't iive in that state but I'm not far so that wasn't too bad.
