Which do you do first???

Brush or floss??? I usually brush first then floss. Having a dispute with my son who says to floss and then brush. Just wondering what other people do.

I floss and then brush. I have always done my teeth cleaning in this order. Floss to get between teeth, then brush to clean. The dental hygienist scrapes and removes build-up on teeth, then flosses, and finally polishes the teeth which is the equivalent of brushing. I agree with your son.

@retiredatlast I've never heard of flossing first!

It just seems to make sense to brush first and get as much clean as possible, then you can even rinse well, then floss!

If we flossed first, it would be doing a harder, longer job getting more of things that should be left to brushing first! Of course you are right!😁

Alway floss first. Floss, brush including tongue, listerine rinse. Done. If you floss after you brush and you get crud out that stuck between your teeth, you have to brush all over again... right?

@On It My hygienist does the opposite, you would think it would be the same.

My hygienist says to brush first, then floss, last thing at night and don't rinse the toothpaste out of your mouth to allow it to work. Not rinsing is taking some time to get used to. In the morning, I brush, floss, then use the water pic. Funny how so many hygienists recommend so many different ways, the important thing is that you do both.

I brush first. At the dental cleaning appt.'s they floss after they've been cleaned too.

@Carolina925 Am I understanding she said to not rinse it out at all. If so, you'd be ingesting that toothpaste every day and that may not be good for your general health.

Yes, that's what she said, spit only and not rinse. Guess after spitting there's not much to worry about...or since I'm old she didn't think it would matter

I floss with waxed dental tape, then use GUM Go-Betweens, then brush. A dental hygienist recommended this to me years ago and it works well for me.

My dental hygenist instructed me to floss, then brush.

Screenshot taken from the American Dental Association (ADA). According to them, it doesn't matter as long as it's done once a day. I rinse using Supersmile whitening rinse, brush for two minutes, floss, and then brush again with a prescription fluoride toothpaste, which I expectorate but don't rinse. I have all my bases covered. lol

@retiredatlast It doesn't matter the order as long as you do both each day. There is no right or wrong way. You should always do a good rinse after brushing and flossing with a good mouthwash such as Listerine. I was a dental assistant for 30 years, it all works.

I always floss first then brush. I feel like I get out any plaque or whatever between my teeth first and that way when I brush, it cleans better between my teeth.

Second floss.

Third proxabrush.

I was amazed with the proxabrush and how it got some tiny stuff left behind from brushing/flossing.

In the mornings, I brush first.

At bedtime, I floss first.

Often I brush my teeth after eating if am home. I tend to floss first because my teeth are famous for getting food stuck in them. I always carry floss with me.

When I go to the dentist, the hygienist cleans my teeth first, then flosses....but there is no food stuck in my teeth.

If I know I have food in my teeth, I floss it first. If, no food, then I floss afterwards so plaque doesn't form.

I'm with you, rush floss, then brush again with fluoride (I wear braces).
