Excellent documentary! When we first decided to try keto, it was my umteenth attempt at weight loss (many years ago I lost a bunch on fen phen, put it all back on plus more) . A couple of months into keto, I heard about The Magic Pill. We watched it and were convinced that it needed to be our permanent lifestyle. A little over two years later, we're still living and loving healthy keto, and so glad we made the decision.

@hckynut I don't know what else to say to you John unless you change your mind and watch the videos. There are lots of slender folks who eat a poor diet of high carbs sugars/trans fats and don't gain weight who have heart/blood pressure/high blood sugar and other health issues.

In the Fat Head video I tried to have others watch, a Dr stated that the hardest folks to convince they have to change their diet because of their health issues are actually those who don't gain weight! The slender folks think they are doing it right...

example...skim milk and cereal or toast.

It is the high glycemic index that makes that a poor diet...has more sugar than a snickers bar. Skim milk eliminates good fat one's brain needs.

Just an example of why that video is called Fat Head.

We were spoon fed by the gov/pharma about 50 yrs ago to live a low fat diet. DH and I believe the gov/pharma til Sept 2018 when we changed to a low carb/keto lifestyle.

Poof! Our fat started to melt off, I take no meds, DH takes about 75% less meds, our brains aren't in a fog anymore and we feel like we are in our 30's/40's.

If we didn't become insulin resistant from eating all those carbs/sugars/trans fat that the gov/pharma spoonfed us for decades with that USDA upside-down food pyramid, we would have not gained all this weight.

Some folks gain weight being insulin resistant like we did. Others don't, but still get high blood sugar. Most folks when they are slim don't bother to get their blood sugar checked until there is a serious health issue developed when their body gives out.

I've mentioned many times DH has gone to the Dr to get a check-up...blood levels checked since he has been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. I was pre-diabetic. We both now have normal blood sugar levels and DH is off of both of his diabetic meds.

What else can I say?

All of this info is included in the videos. Again, there is nothing more I can say if you don't watch the videos.

I keep thinking of an old saying my Grandpa used to tell me...

"You can lead a horse to water..."

Lets just agree to disagree.

I am a proponent of LCHF, although I don't add extra fat to my food. My diabetes has improved remarkably. My endocrinologist is thrilled with my numbers. I have lost weight but more importantly I am maintaining that weight loss without difficulty. I still seldom stray from it.

hckynut

@hckynut Being overweight and having a diet rich in refined carbs and grains, rather than nutrient dense, clean foods and healthy fats can be an underlying and/or contributing cause of many health issues. For starters, a fatty liver, insulin resistance, diabetes, cancers, cognitive decline,

I see my NP annually and get my blood tested. She is thrilled with my success. But let's get down and dirty and have a look at my existence for the majority of my adult life - poor food choices, a growing girth, setting a terrible example for our children, being an embarrassment for them (peers can be mean), difficulty walking any long distances, unable to get down and roughhouse with my kids, needing a seatbelt extender on an airplane, needing to hold onto a railing to pull myself up a flight of stairs, being unable to cross my legs, having constant ankle and feet swelling, sore knees, poor sleep (apnea) and waking up as tired as I was when I went to bed, a diagnosis of borderline pre diabetes, high blood pressure, I could go on. For more than a year, I was at the health club 4x a week, trying to lose weight in advance of one of our kids' wedding. It did nothing to improve my situation. Today, besides the loss of 141 pounds I've experienced thru keto and daily meaningful, intentional intermittent fasting, I've also experienced numerous non-scale victories. I no longer have sleep apnea, I sleep well and wake up rested, my A1C is now normal, insulin resistance is reversed, fatty liver is corrected, no more edema, I'm bouncing up the stairs with ease, I can walk blocks and blocks without huffing and puffing or needing to stop to rest, I can sit with my legs comfortably crossed, I can wrap a bath towel around my body and have a lot left to tuck in, my cognition/focus is better, blood pressure meds have been reduced to a minimal dosage and my cardiologist believes I will come off it altogether when I lose just a couple more pounds (so probably at my next appointment)

What many people fail to understand about keto, is that it's more than a weight loss tool. It's understanding how our body was intended to operate. Access to refined carbs and processed foods dramatically increased with the Industrial Revolution. It can't be a mere coincidence that dementia and Alzheimer's just happened to increase in the same time frame.

Also something else you may not realize is that many cardiologists and other MD's actually recommend a ketogenic diet to their patients. It is not a fad diet, it's been around since the 1920's and was originally developed for children with epilepsy because healthy fats are so good for the brain. That in itself has been a very persuasive point for me.
