VERTIGO FROM MIGRAINES...

My husband suffers from migraines, which he has medication for. Since last week he's been having bad attacks of vertigo. Yesterday he was in bed the entire day. I was only able to get him to eat toast. He's very active, so this is so unlike him. I asked to take him to E.R. but he won't go. I'll definitely call his Dr tomorrow.

Meantime I'm reading dramamine may be helpful...has anyone ever tried it? I know it's used for sea sickness.

Vertigo is horrible, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I had my first experience

with vertigo last year so I know what he is going thru. I had never had it before so at first thought I was having a stroke or something. Felt like my eyes were darting back and forth, all light was too much, all I could do was sit on the bathroom floor because I felt like I was spinning so fast and kept getting sick. I went to the E.R. [ this was before the virus] They told me it was vertigo and showed me the Epily manuvere , I guess it helps some people. Yes Dramamine helps with the dizziness and will just make you sleep. I keep it in the house, the problem with it for me was I couldn't keep it down. My doctor gave me a prescription for Meclizine which is the same thing really , and they are tiny and chewable so I could keep them down. I think weather changes do not help with the migraines, mine was caused 'they say' by crystals moving in my ears. Hasn't happened again, but I am very aware that it can. Again so sorry for your husband and I know you must be so worried for him. I hope he feels better very soon.

I've been diagnosed with "silent migraines" -- there's a long, fancy name for it, but I don't remember. Anyway, I get the vertigo and lack of balance without the head pain. I've had to spend whole days in bed because I'm too dizzy to walk. Comes on without warning. So I agree it's a horrible feeling - like you have no control.

Once a doctor had me wear dramamine patches on the back of my neck every day. They made it worse, oddly enough. It might work for some, but not others.

If anyone is interested, the acupressure point for dizziness is to press firmly on the cupids bow - the V above the upper lip. I don't remember where I learned it, but have used it many times over the years. It is benign and worth a try.

I hope your husband can get relief. Being dizzy and in pain is not a good place to be in.

@Dazlin I feel for your husband. I had vertigo 30 years ago and was prescribed Antivert, which has Meclizine in it. This ingredient is found in Bonine, which does what Dramamine does. This past summer, I was hit with vertigo again, and I had my husband get the Bonine as it worked better for me than Dramamine. If the vertigo persists, I would get your husband to a doctor or a telemedicine appt.

I randomly get vertigo and it is HORRIBLE I agree. I am so sorry your husband is experiencing this. I finally was sent to a physical therapist recently for excercizes that helped. I have also had the epley maneuver used which helped immensley. I was told by my doctor I can take Meclizine during these times 3 times a day. 25 MG of Meclizine helps. It is with the dramamine at the pharmacy. It may be the same as Meclizine which is in with motion sickness products, Check the label for ingredients. Good luck to your husband.

@Dazlin my husband experienced a horrible day of vertigo, with vomiting- he took Meclizine which didn't even phase him. Next day we were in the ER and he had a head CT and the works to rule out a stroke. Dr. gave him a couple meds and we came home. Few days later he was back to normal. It is so scary and your husband (speaking from experience) should go to the ER..

Let us know how he does and prayers said for the both of ya.

When you consult his Dr., ask about promethazine (Phenergan) for the nausea, it's prescription, but it works so much better than the OTC meds.

I have chronic nausea and major weight loss as a result, I take it everyday at least once a day, but it works when nothing else really did.

I feel for him, I have migraines and sometimes have vertigo also. I really think if he isn't better tomorrow he should go to urgent care. Mine usually just last a few days.

It can be a miserable existance, I was having migraines at least once a week when I started taking a monthly shot, that I give myself called emgality. It has reduced the monthly number of migraines I have by quite a bit.

I just thought I'd mention it, I didn't know the shots existed till I went to a new neurologist and he mentioned it.

I hope you husband is feeling better soon.

Meclazine is what I was given, doesn't help a lot, I've been having this for at least 40 years.It comes stays about 5 days and disappears,. I've been to ear specialist and no matter what, it's a grin and bare it problem, no cure. It happens to me 2 or 3 times a year.

I think for sure we will go somewhere tomorrow. I actually was looking into neurologists too. So far today, he said not as bad as yesterday, not spinning. He's eating today too. I gave him the dramamine about 1 1/2 hours ago...he said hes still the same. This started last Wednesday, he stayed in bed, then was somewhat ok on and off until yesterday, couldn't get out of bed.

I'm probably better off at E.R...rather than wait for neurologist appt and they can run all the tests too.

His primary dr is rather laid back, so im hesitant to call him. Although he prescribes Sumatriptan for his headaches, I dong think he ever considers the frequency of his headaches. Hubby is also diabetic and doesn't put him on insulin, instead he takes Metformin. He's been losing weight too, which can't afford and doesn't address that either. Its soooo hard to find a good dr, so im reluctant to switch, but I am definitely going to look into neurologist for him after we go to E.R. I just pray my husband listens to me and let me take him. Yes, Dramamine (which comes in a non-drowsy formulation) sometimes helps with my vertigo. The generic "meclazine" is a lot less expensive, though I haven't seen it in a non-drowsy forumation. So sorry for your husband (and for you). Hope the doctor's visit helps him. Assuming the doctor rules out anything more serious, he might also benefit from seeing a vestibular therapist. My sympathies. It's very tough (anyone who has never had it has no idea...). FYI, meclazine is the generic and it's non-prescription -- it can be bought cheaply OTC.

They canceled appt and wanted to do a virtual. So we just did it...as of now, Dr feels its inner ear because it comes and let's up a bit. He said if it's continuous then we'll start tests.. Hes calling in 2 prescriptions. One similar to dramamine and one for nausea if needed. Any changes or no improvements then call back.

So far today, he's up and about, eating...hasn't taken any meds. As soon as I get notified I'll pick up meds.
