Just something she has always done. Recently, before donation they tested her blood and antibodies for covid were present. She was floored. She was never sick. Not even close. The tech said she was more than likely exposed at some point. It's really weird to me as well. Because of that, I'm not willing to gamble that I won't be one tied to a respirator.

Quite a few news stories about people -- namely Congresspersons -- getting Covid even after their second dose of vaccine. The news stories mention that it takes a week or two after the second dose for the vaccine to reach its full effectiveness. The news stories also state that the vaccines' effectiveness to prevent asymptomatic Covid is uncertain.

Hmmm. That is not encouraging. But information worthy to know.

That makes me wonder about the j &j vaccine that is 66% effective that supposedly is coming out as an option? The flu shots are even less than that and certainly don't totally prevent the flu. I have gotten the flu but not as severe or long lasting with the flu shot. So does that mean one's Covid won't be as severe with 66%? My Stepdaughters symptoms of Covid were like the flu. Some only lose a sense of taste. I dislike thinking masks will be needed for a long time.

We have no real evidence of how effective it really is or how long that effectiveness lasts. We won't have that for years.

We are extremely cautious and I do not see that changing for a very long time. I'm not going to rely on something as untested as these vaccines to keep me from dying.

Until after Thanksgiving we had not known too many people who contracted it and just a few elderly who had died (very elderly that is). Now? Different story and a number of friends have passed away from COVID after they all got together for the holidays.

I am not going to blame people. It is their choice, but I will say some very bad decisions were made and deaths were preventable which is so very sad.

No where has it been said or proven that the vaccine will keep you from getting Covid. You most certainally can get Covid after the vaccine.

It will keep you from having symptoms and keep you out of the hospital. That's how it works.

You still have to social distance and wear a mask even if vaccinated. You could be passing Covid to an unvaccinated person after you were vaccinated and not know it.

Most of us are not in a position to be tested regularly after we have been vaccinated like our law makers. So, there will we many vaccinated people walking around and potentially passing Covid to others.

You get the shot to tamper down symptoms should you contract it. Because of the newness of the virus, the two shot dose is probably a precaution due to the extreme contagion factor and the amount of people who have gotten it. More than likely, if one chooses to vaccinate regularly, it will be one dose like the flu shot. I got the flu when I was maybe 30 years old and I can tell you, I was never sicker in my life...and I was and still am active and athletic. My husband got it from me and he was just as sick. After that, we got the flu shot every year and that has been 35 years worth of flu shots. Never got the flu again.

Being in health care, I already got covid dose 1. No side effects at all. I get dose 2 mid Feb and will be happy. I double mask, carry hand sanitizer in my coat pockets and a container of wipes in my car to wipe down the grocery cart before I grab it. I do not trust stores are actually disinfecting. I believe we will return to normalcy at some point, but probably not until 2023. My sister in law works with Fauci's team at NIH and thats the consensus there.

Ya, none of the vaccines prevent you from getting Covid. They only claim to make it less severe, more likely to keep you out of the hospital and a lower chance of death. People who get Covid soon after vaccine were most likely infected pre-vaccine and didn't know it. I don't see them testing anyone before vaccine, so I guess it doesn't matter except for people who are not researching or paying attention and they get a false sense of security getting the vaccine.

It is not like the measles vaccine where if you got it you do not get the measles. These are more stop gap vaccines. I do wonder though, when making them, were they more concerned with not overwhelming the hospitals? That seems to be the thing they are saying the most. "It will keep people out of the hospital, thereby not overwhelming our medical system". I would like more focus on what is data showing for side effects but it may be too soon to have any long term data yet.

The truth is, our own immune systems and what other health conditions really determine how bad you get this virus. It is such a weird virus no two people get the same illness. Some get terribly ill, others don't feel bad at all, some get over it in 2 days.

I know a woman who is a health nut, does everything possible to keep her immune system strong (some questionable things, but I don't judge) and other things that really do keep an immune system healthy, and she got clobbered, severely ill when she finally got it. She was an anti-masker because she was so convinced she had the best immune system.

It is all so confusing. If EVERYONE got the vaccine then it would snuff the virus out because it would have no host. I don't see any country getting to 100% vaccinated. Hard to see an end to this madness.

That's based on what they are telling us at this point, that we can still catch the virus and still pass it on after we are vaccinated. So if you don't mind getting a mild (or symptom free) case, you could skip the mask and get cozy. Otherwise, wear a mask and distance, even after all 4 of you are vaccinated.

It got an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). Different standard.

I am waiting for full approval, which will probably happen early next year. I also want to see how effective the vaccines are in real-world conditions, across millions of people, many of whom will not be masking or distancing once they've had their second shots, based on things I'm reading here and elsewhere. I also want to see whether or not there are late-emerging side effects from the vaccine, especially for people like me, with deranged immune systems.

Nope, vaccines aren't perfect, and the safety of any one individual is not guaranteed. Still, it's pretty darn good odds. And if enough of us get it, and wear masks, we will block the virus from spreading freely as it does now. I am looking forward to that!
