23.2 = Normal. I already knew that, but it was a good recheck! Most PCP's provide that information to their patients OR tell them to loose weight!

I've never been on a diet, yet my sister is a life-long member of Weight Watchers. She'll eat any dessert in sight, then wonder why she has no waist, wide hips, big tush and thick thighs. She doesn't seem to get the connection.

I use Medicare insurance and read all the fine print on every EOB I receive

My weight hasn't changed in several years but one 1 EOB I'll see a note that I'm over the BMI, then another will say I'm within the normal range

I'm healthy, I don't care about an arbitrary index

Sorry I'm unable to give any tips, but friends swear drinking LOTS of water and eating a lot of fruits and veggies does wonders, along with daily walks.

I've seen their results . . . and walk often with them since I love to walk daily and prompt them to do so. They have literally "shed" the lbs by giving up sweets for fruits, a healthy diet and walking at least 30 minutes per day. (With me, it's usually more!)

Be careful about losing weight to a lower BMI, although Medicare may recommend it. I did that one year and my knee went out, my ankle fractured and I had a small bump into an appliance that broke my coccyx. So, losing weight can also mean losing bone mass. Be careful. My endocrinologist was very upset when she learned that my knee had gone out on me, that I had been walking 5 miles per day which accounted for what had happened. So be careful. Also, want to state that I looked 20 years older when I lost that much weight. I was really not obese but my children kept whining about how I needed to lose weight because I was no longer able to get into my wedding dress or the dresses I wore to their weddings.

BMI not really my thing when it comes to my body. It does not differentiate body weight by types of tissue. My body weight per "body composition testing" is not incorporated in a BMI.

A 6' man with 5% body fat weighing 200lbs. will have the same BMI as a similar 6' man that has 40% body fat. Using only inches and pounds will give you a number, but is what one's body consists of in that number? No it is not.

My BMI came in at 21.3

hckynut
