Has anyone else noticed the latest hopeful research and comments on XLEAR Nasal Spray for Covid? I'm afraid to post a link because I always get poofed, but you can google it and see what comes up.

I back ordered two bottles on Amazon, since I cannot be vaccinated for awhile.

I have been using it several times a day since COVID started. It kills viruses on contact. I get it from Amazon, but I believe it can be purchased in health stores. I haven't even had sniffles from a potential cold since starting with the product.

JMO but I highly doubt it's efficacy.If it was a way to avoid contracting Covid 19 you would hear about on the news.Dr. Fauci would be talking about it. Anybody could run a"test"& publish their results. True tests have to be run under strict scientific guidelines & go through various stages of testing.

Until I get my vaccine & beyond I will continue to follow CDC guidance.It's not fun but it's keeping me alive.

@World Traveler I haven't had so much as a sniffle either since mid March.I think it's because I follow CDC guidance.
If you stay 6 feet apart from others,wear a mask, wash your hands regularly or use hand sanitizer & avoid gatherings etc. you can avoid a lot of germs that cause various viruses .

JMO but I would hate for people to use XLEAR & get a false sense of security.Covid can be deadly. I wouldn't depend on it to save my life.

Thanks @eadu4 for giving us some basic information.

There's nothing in XLEAR that's been shown to kill viruses. It might "reduce" viruses by washing them away. I hope some more research is done.

And yet, I can't believe it's been 50 years (!) since a chiropractor told me about new research on cranberry juice and its effect on UTIs. So you never know.

@hckynut any particular context for needing that kind of protection. It’s going to be a very long time until I will voluntarily be any place for more than a minute or two where I cannot at least partially social distance

maybe be if I get sent to prison?

I found this NIH publication about XLEAR. The article is lengthy and technical but it concludes by saying there was improvement in symptoms and reduction in the course of infection after using the spray.

COVID aside, I have been using Xlear for many years for seasonal allergies. I was in line at the drugstore one day and sniffling and blowing and the lady behind me recommended it. I asked my doctor and she said it probably worked because the xylitol kept stuff from sticking inside your nose. Anyhow, it works for me and if there are extra benefits even better.

Only three patients were studied and the researcher works with a grant from XClear and has a declared final relationship. Quoted from the linked study:

"The authors have declared financial relationships, which are detailed in the next section."

"Gustavo Ferrer declare(s) a grant from Xlear, Inc. GF is currently supported by a research grant from the Xlear, Inc to work on the research and development."

The publication, Cureus Journal of Medical Science, also accepts articles for publication from (see their website on their standards for publishing) As for the research, none of the results can be directly attributed to the nasal spray. There are too many confounding variables and it is not possible to determine from this study what effect the nasal spray had on the patients with regard to the lessening of viral symptoms or to the shortening of days to cessation of hospitalization (none of the patients were hospitalized), aka, duration of hospital stay days, or to compare with controls (there were no controls) not receiving this therapy as to the number of days hospitalized to release from the hospital.

I'm not saying that this product is not helpful. I am saying that in my opinion there is not enough evidence to make scientific claims about it. There is evidence from other research about irrigation of the nasal passages with neti pots and with the use of gargles such as Listerine. Look for my post about this. These agents studied in this other research were not studied in patients that had already tested positive for COVID. These studies were testing different substances as preventative agents or agents that reduced viruses; I think I remember that theses studies were in vitro (not in live people) have not reread the studies in a few months, so I'm guessing.

“We have more data supporting the use of nasal sprays against COVID-19 than we had supporting the use of masks and social distancing when CDC told Americans to do those things,” Dr. Mark Cannon, another petitioner, said. “Nasal sprays are inexpensive, non-invasive, safe, and you can get them off-the-shelf at your local store. Addressing your ETA:

I heard on a National news interview with st Fauci what I stated in my other post. Those words were in the context of what he was talking about during that interview. It was not a "snipit" taken out of context, it was part of the purpose of the interview.

Each person has their own version of what they feel is safe for them and theirs. As for my choice of sources that I believe when it comes to this ******* virus, Fauci is not even on my list, and wasn't before 1-20-21.
