Vaccine Frustration

My state (MI) opened the next phase of vaccinations starting today. I got an email last Thursday from my healthcare provider conglomerate with instructions on how to make an appointment. What a joke. The website was crashed most of the day and when I finally got in the links that were explained in the email were nowhere to be found. Nothing is working the way it should, it's a giant sh*tshow. I'm telling myself to just be patient, and that the people who are actually able to get the vaccine will mean fewer people out there who can infect the unlucky ones like me who are trying to follow the directions but can't get anywhere.

Distribution will come in phases. They cant innoculate everyone at once. Eventually all will get the vaccine. You have to still do COVID protocol after getting the vaccine for awhile. Keep trying but don't stress about it. You will get the vaccine now or later. Breathe. The stress will make ya sick. Meanwhile stay safe and as healthy as you can be.

I registered on line and will be notified when and where to get the vaccine in time. I must be patient at this point because getting upset isn't going to help. What bothers me is that people still refuse to wear masks and do what they should for all of our safety and I am angry at these spreaders as well as others who have mishandled this from the beginning.

I am thankful for the vaccine and hope in time we will all be safe and resume our lives with hope and peace of mind, something that has been lacking for too long.

My state, Pennsylvania, still has not finished vaccinating the people in nursing home or medical workers yet, which is phase one. By the time they get to phase two, it wil be months away.

Today, I read where the needles that are being sent for use are wasting the vaccine. Yep, this is a circus show.

I think we all knew that this vacination extravaganza was going to be a mess. I plan to just stay hunkered down as I have been doing through the summer into next fall.... and see where things stand then. There is no way this situation is going to improve at least for another year. If you think it is I have ocean front property in Arizona to sell you for cheap.

From what I've been reading, there are a number of eligible people who are refusing to get vaccinated. Imagine how bad it would be if all eligible people tried to get the vaccine right now...the situation would be more of a mess.

This is being handled badly. It's as though each locality has set up a single stream here and there for hundreds of thousands of people. The government needs to get out of this process and turn it over to providers. Send the vaccine to pharmacies and to medical offices, as they do with the flu vaccine, and let individuals have some choice about how they obtain it. Pharmacies and medical offices can always report back, so local Grand Poobahs can continue to feel like they're still in charge...

The vaccine should continue to go to the most vulnerable & it shouldn't matter what race they are, that's been a ridiculous concern in my State. I'm 70, healthy & I don't have a problem waiting until Fall or later to get the vaccine....I'm out almost everday & simply follow the recommended guidelines.

I'll be 71 soon and DH turning 75 later this month. Neither one of us is in a hurry to get the vaccine and expect it will be summer before we do.

My concern is that the people who do get the vaccine will feel they can just go about their business as usual. NO! Social distancing, masks, hand washing, etc. will still be required but how many people do that now and will do it once they are vaccinated???

@stevieb Just read we are are second phase in my town and one of the places to receive is our local Shop Rite Pharmacy. Have also heard doctor offices and other pharmacies.

Honestly, I don't know what those in charge have been doing or what they've been thinking. My large and populous county has a vaccination 'hotline'. They list the number and then tell you they're 'experiencing high volume'... DUH... They also say an on-line scheduler is 'coming soon'... My guess is that even once they get it, it won't work properly and I'd add that one of the targeted populations now is those 75 and older, for whom an 'on- line' option isn't going to be universally accessible... Really... Shouldn't they have been ready after all these months to hit the ground running... It appears that for the average citizen there will be limited locations doling out the vaccine, which makes no sense... One might also question who they are including in their ever expanding priority population and, more to the point, who they aren't... I guess we might have all figured this would be a mess but I'm not sure anyone realized it would be this big of a mess...

To date we still have no national plan. Every state is doing their thing.

We are in phase 1 and scheduling for 1b. My 93, soon to be 94 year old Dad was contacted last week, and scheduled today to receive the vaccine on 2-1.

@proudlyfromNJ Sounds like they're using more than half a brain in your area... Where I am, it looks as though certain groups are having the vaccine brought to them while others need to schedule with the local health department... Fine, except there are normally five or six regional sites and they've closed them all down but one... It's unclear whether or not folks will have to travel to that single site and if so, it makes even less sense, as most of those in the current round are very elderly...

I live in Navajo County Arizona. While its true several counties near Phoenix are beginning to have vaccination options, the average old citizen ( I'm 77) has no options and can't even get on a list; so there's that...

The jury is still out on that. It's possible that they could infect you. If they're infected, they shouldn't get sick, or as sick, as they might without the vaccine. That's a good thing, especially for people in high-risk groups and those with constant exposure, like health care workers.

But for now, everyone, vaccinated or not, should still be masking and practicing distancing, from everything I've read.

I really wish we could all have N95 masks for optimum protection. When I cancelled acheckup with my doctor the other day, I asked the woman on the line if they had any N95s for patients. She said no one there wears them. They just wear the regular blue masks, like what I bought on Amazon. That squares with my experiences with their office and their lab months back, as well as two dentist appointments in the fall: No N95s, just blue surgical masks, sometimes with face shields. That's one of the reasons I cancelled my appointment, since our state's numbers are so bad. It's not safe.

As others have said, please be patient. I think you'll be vaccinated by Summer or Fall, or, at worst, by end of year.

I'm also in Michigan. I was irritated that people were being asked to check the website for their county health departments. Many elderly do not use the internet. so basically they are left out. I didn't realize that people could log on Thursday to my county health department to schedule an appointment. I have friends who are teachers and they signed up for the vaccine but someone like my MIL who is 80 is left out because she doesn't use the internet and spots were taken up by people half her age. Had I known that the health department opened up that day i would have logged on to schedule her appointment.
