Sometimes our kids like to tease or make fun of us, not realizing how it affects us. I’ve often said, at various times, “Some day you’ll be the age I am now—if you’re lucky.”

The 1993 jumped out at me. I have a daughter born that year. She’ll be 28 in February. She recently became engaged so it’s all wedding talk now! She’s very artsy and crafty and wants to convert our large shed into the wedding vunue. She’s acquired barn wood and is going to apply that to the interior walls, in addition to some tin along the bottom. The barn look seems to be the thing for some. She wants to make it look very elegant but yet have that rustic feel. I’m thinking: What have we got ourselves into?! Ha!

Take care, Dear... I hope your son will learn to become more understanding of you...

He won't change..its the way he is...he called this morning and was upsetting me...so I hung up...and went about my day..

I'm sorry this is happening to you. And yes I agree with another poster, your son has the problem. My cousin has memory loss cause of Dementia. It's not bad yet but she does have it. She typed up a letter to her kids explaining her memory loss and how some days she may not remember things and for them to try to be understanding and not get frustrated with her. And she gave a copy to each one. I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

@emmygrace That would be hurtful. Maybe you need to have a more serious discussion with your son (perhaps a family meeting), when you feel the time is optimal. I know you've done this before, but revisit it, in a more formal way. Let him, and family know how upsetting it continues to be, when others don't try to understand, your condition.

Remind him/them that it's nothing you can willfully control, AND, that it's frustrating for you, too. Stand up for yourself. But, all that said, have a wonderful Christmas. And if you want to add a lump of coal in your son's stocking, we wouldn't hold it against you .

My late BIL taught me how to deal with this type of situation. With courtesy.

Your son needs to be reminded to have some patience with you.

After my strokes my speech was affected even more that my thinking. One thing we need to do is to admit to ourself that we are now in the pleasantly "retarded" and to be at peace with it. We need to be understanding too.

I remember you were struggling with highs. Often times when our blood glucose levels are high, our memory is affected. I also have had a stroke and any readings above 140, have a significant effect on my memory. Just a thought and hopefully your son will be less insensitive in the future. These are trying times and a lot of people seem to lash out more readily.

Be well @emmygrace .

My son lives in Texas now...the rest of the family in KC. Thankfully the twins were ok and they loved daycare!
