Getting the vaccination

I'm a front line health care worker. My team is scheduled to receive the vaccination this week.

Dr. Fauci says it's safe so sign me up!

My sisters got their vaccines. They both are hospital employees and one has MS. So far so good.

My 20 something DIL just got her vaccination (Pfizer) last weekend. The next day her arm was pretty sore, and she experienced muscle aches and a stuffy nose. It did not last long and was over the next day. She feels fine and empowered! She works in a hospital lab and they handle COVID-19 samples all day long. Very happy to know that she is on her way to being better protected.

People who work in a hospital are the luckiest ones to receive the vaccinations. They have immediate access to emergency care should anaphylaxis or elevated heartbeat result. This continues to happen to people when the mRNA shots are given. It is speculated that the PEG in the novel mRNA vaccines is what is causing the anaphylaxis in some healthcare workers. @hick Best of luck. I’m so glad you will have this opportunity. My son who works in the ER of a large city hospital received his first shot a few days ago. Second shot scheduled for early January. No effects other than a sore arm and mild malaise for a day.

He worked through the nightmare here in NY last spring and I could hear a happiness and sense of relief in his voice that hasn’t been there for a long time. I know the next two months will be brutal until the vaccine becomes more widespread and I thank you so much for the work you do to keep us all safe.

One of my friends works with the VA hospital. He walked onto his unit to a 'Code Blue,' being called for a coworker who had just received the vaccine. An allergic reaction was occurring.

He was perplexed because the coworker didn't appear to be in any serious distress. He learned that out of safety precautions, any staff who had side effects would be whisked to the ER -- just in case. He thought it was a bit reactionary, since that's not the purpose of a 'Code Blue,' but relented it's better to be safe than sorry. Seems they're being very protective of their staff. Good for them.

I hope that everyone receiving the vaccine are being told to wait a bit before trying to drive home, and that those administering the vaccine can manage any reactions. I know before I get my vaccine, I will ask these relevant questions. But, I can't wait to get the darn thing.

I received my shot last Thursday. After getting the injection you have to be observed for 15 minutes before you are allowed to leave the area.

Another lab person here. So glad that our health system placed our department on the phase 1A list. Lots of risk for exposure as we've handled hundreds of thousands of Covid specimens since the beginning of the pandemic in early March.

I received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine last week. Just a sore arm and achy overnight. Having witnessed the Death toll in March and April, I had no hesitation.

It will be interesting to see how the mass vaccinations will work...they are talking about drive through...how do you get watched then.

I have not had any immediate issue with vaccines but felt crummy after Shingrix for a day or two...but that shows it works. Will be well worth it and looking forward to my turn.

I'm glad you will be getting it soon, @hick.

My mom got a call from one of the larger hospitals in the state, and they said that they think my parents will be able to get their vaccines in 2 to 3 weeks. I know they will still need to be careful, mom says they'll still wear their masks and social distance, but I already feel like a weight has been lifted.

I work at a hospital also. From what we've been told the reaction supposedly comes after the 2nd shot. They are staggering the shots between doctors and nurses so everyone does'nt get sick at the same time.

DH is getting his shot around the 28th. Initially we were told it would be this week, but they've pushed it out a little. I'm just so grateful he's in an early group.

The governors of Texas and Florida have changed the vaccine schedule from the CDC recommendations....now people age 65 and older will get the vaccine even if not in a nursing home or other facility, as well as those 16 and older who have underlying health conditions and essential workers.
We will be in the Phase1-B group. Phase 1-A is nursing home residents and staff, other healthcare workers and first responders. 1-A is about to begin, then 1-B.

Am so grateful these governors recognize the need for the 1-B group instead of putting us months down the list. They recognize that seniors who die from COVID are not all nursing home residents.

Even when you get flu shots at a drugstore or at the dr office, they have you stay a few minutes to make sure you are okay. The two times I have had what I thought was a bad reaction, it wasn’t until several hours later, so being careful with a vaccine that is brand new is the safest thing to do. They are recommending someone drive you to get the vaccine, and arrange for a day off afterwards if you can. I am happy to see the V.A. err on the side of caution.

Essential workers go first here regardless of age and regardless of current health status. Not all will want it and for those that do at least the fear of transmitting it to their parents or grandparents will lessen. Trying to be positive over the fact that the over 65 age group, even the ones with comorbidities have to wait. But there's a silver lining to this and truthfully we are not out of the house as much as an essential worker.
