as we age...we tend not todrink enuf...MD told me....

first thing in the morning drink a glass of the warmest water you can stand (10ozs)

then gradually increase each day

Not drinking water can cause blood clots...Yes the blood does get "thick"..pain in your knees and shoulders could be from clots forming

optimun water (including vitamen water drinks, coffee, )=take your weight, divide by 2..

...that is how many ozs of water you should drink EVERY DAY

with all the things we do to improve our health...drinking water is the easiest, and most beneficial

What has helped me the most is to get an insulated water bottle (I like Contigo brand). I have it by my side all day and night and bring it with me in the car. I like my water pretty cold and this keeps it cold for hours which makes it easier to drink. I also try to drink at least one cup of hot water with lemon each day. Tastes good and helps keep my kidney stones at bay which is a plus!

Hydration is very important. I have a pet theory that a lot of the snow shoveling heart attacks are triggered by dehydration. When you're out shoveling snow you're typically dressed for winter because it's cold out. The snow shoveling heats you up and you start to perspire losing hydration. Your blood gets harder and harder to pump and pretty soon a clot forms and you have a heart attack. When you're doing strenuous stuff in the summer you're hot and tend to be more aware of the need to stay hydrated. If nothing else, you'll drink to cool off. In the wintertime, you tend not to need to cool off and you don't drink as much when you're exercising and you're more prone to dehydration. I make it a point to drink like a fish and dress a bit cooler when I'm shoveling snow. I think there's a connection there that's largely ignored.

For me if I drink a large amount all at once then I'm in the bathroom shortly afterwards peeing. If I drink just about a 1/2 cup, which is about four gulps for me, that seems to stay in me longer. I drink 1/2 cup every hour during my 12-hour day but that is only 6 cups so the other 2 cups comes from other beverages and some food items I consume during my day.
