Tummy tuck?

I would love to get one but I'd like to have a ballpark guess of what I might expect to pay. I have a couple of conditions that might make it impossible for any surgeon in his right mind to operate on me, but on the chance someone would consent to work on me, I'd like to have some idea of what it might cost.

If it matters, I'm 25-30 lbs overweight and it's all in my gut.

I know--and I did--but nowhere was there any information on the possible cost. Thanks for the "helpful" information. ;-)

Why not call up plastic surgeons you've researched in your area and ask. Many will give you a free in office consult.

Google is also a great resource. New Beauty magazine and website is a good resource.

Of course, the cost varies depending on location and physician, but I did a quick search for Charlotte, North Carolina, and I found it could range $8,000 to $15,000.

My guess is it would be on the higher end of that range. I had an outpatient procedure done in Charlotte in August that wasn't as extensive as a tummy tuck. With insurance, my 20% of the hospital bill was $3,000. Plus, I had to pay the anesthesiologist, gynecologist, and lab fees.

I've had a cosmetic procedure and learned how much it varies by region. I had consultations from several doctors. While there was some variation in price, it wasn't anything concerning. I have a friend out of state that had the same procedure; her price was substantialy more (but proportionate based on the cost of living in our areas).

i found a surgeon that is a blessing; a truly amazing man with incredible skill and bedside manner. I truly hope that anyone going through a procedure is just as blessed to find a Doctor that understands their desires!

Not really. I found out all kinds of information but no one would give any specific information or even a ballpark figure when it comes to price.

Spanx would be a great bargain! I have heard that this surgery can have a painful recovery. Not a great time to be in the hospital, either, if you can avoid it.

Go to You Tube and type in Tummy Tucks. A lot of information and I also found some videos with prices. One I watched said that she spent $15,000.00 with a board certified surgeon. He is interviewed and said he wants people to have stayed the same weight for at least six months. Hope that helps and Good Luck @GoneButNotForgotten

I believe a tummy tuck is done after one has lost weight to remove the excess skin.

There are surgeons willing to oblige a patient to give them what they want regardless of the health risks. You just have to hunt for them.

When I googled the cost in my area, it showed a range of figures.So yes, google will help you find a cost. Consultation will give you a more specific cost.

I have no expertise or information on this at all. But my advice would be, first make an appointment with your PC doctor to discuss your general overall health. Discuss with him what you would like to have done and ask him what he thinks about it regarding whether it would be something that you would be able to have safely done. Also, ask him if you are deemed safe to do this, who he would recommend to do this prodcure. I would think, although I do not know, that your PC might say that you would need to lose as much weight and firm up in this area as much as possible before proceeding, but I don't know this for a fact. I imagine this is a very hard procedure to go through and quite expensive. I would really think long and hard about it and do a lot of careful research. You did not indicate your age either, as this might factor into it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

My best friend had this done a year or two ago. It cost her $15,000 (Boston hospital) and the recovery was brutal. Took a long time for her, of course we are no spring chickens so healing can be lengthy. She says it was worth it, she is thinner now and does not have that mid section bulge anymore. At the same token though she is now putting weight back on due to rhuematoid arthritis and not being able to exercise as much now?! I told her maybe she should have taken a vacation with that money instead.....LOL I love her dearly, we always tease each other.

I never had one done but I worked with someone who did. She said it cost $8000 at the hospital where she had it done. It was the "lesser" know of the two hospitals that were in the area. The other was much more expensive, I believe $12,000. This was 20 years ago.

I read or heard somewhere that of all cosmetic procedures done, TTs had some of the highest 'worth it' responses.

I had one done a few years ago due to having recti diastasis (where the muscles in the stomach separate and cause a bulge that looked like I was 4 mos. pregnant). Insurance did not cover it as they considered it cosmetic surgery. I paid about $8,000 which included the surgeon's fees, surgery room and anesthesiologist. I had it done by a surgeon/professor at UNLV School of Medicine (University of Las Vegas).

I had to lose 10 lbs in my abdodmen before he would do the surgery. You will have to lose some weight I think. Some plastic surgeon require a fee for a consultation. I went to one and paid $50 and then he didn't want to do the surgery. Costs could run from $8,000 to $10,000 depending where you live.

You must investigate very carefully to choose the right one. You will come home with several drainage tubes in your abdomen that you must measure and right down. I had to do that for several weeks. Pain was not too great as they do not cut into the muscles.

I don't know anyone who's done this so I guess I'd want to know, does the result seem to last a long time? If the tummy area stays slim, does the patient gain elsewhere once surgery is done? What are the negatives, if any, to this procedure?

It does make sense to start with a discussion involving your Primary Care dr. as someone already mentioned. Good Luck!
