Everybody in my family has/had high cholesterol. I tried Krill Oil and unfortunately it didn't lower my cholesterol. But, it may work for others. At least it didn't make me nauseous like every fish oil brand on the planet.

Is anyone familiar with this? I have just placed an order and hope this is a good product.

I have always had a good cholesterol level, but a few years ago LDL went way up while HDL went down for a total of about 249. This was because I had developed bad eating habits. However, I have tried all I could to eat better and for about a year, I have done that. Now my LDL went lower (130), but the HDL also went lower (63).

So I thought I give this Krill Oil a try. Ordered from Jim Strong and it is called OmegaK).

Tried it. Didn't do any better than regular fish oil. I'll leave the krill to the whales.

My cholesterol was a wee bit high. So I have to have it retested soon. I am experimenting with taking extra fiber ahead of my tests, since fiber is supposed to lower bad cholesterol; some say by 10%.

The National Cholesterol Education Program says to take between 10 and 25 grams of soluble fiber content. I personally am taking 2 Psyllium Husk caps a day, with a large glass of water... I guess I'll know the results in a few weeks time when I get a new blood test.

Ps; I took Krill for a month, mostly to lube my joints, since I stopped taking Glucosamine as I believe it elevated my glucose. However, krill didn't relieve any of my joint discomfort. So a couple of weeks ago, I switched to mercury-free fish oil instead (from General Dollar Store!). And within a week of taking it, my knee soreness went away. Thus, I prefer fish oil over krill! Let's hope it helps with cholesterol as well.

I did notice Andrew Lessman is now carrying Krill Oil capsules. I am sticking to his Omega 3. I eat fish fairly regularly so I only supplement with the Omega if a few days go by where I dont eat fish. Also the milk I buy is fortified with Omega 3s.

I take 1000 mg of Krill Oil every day, as it provides good health benefits. There was a question about weight gain in the OP's other thread on the topic. I'm overweight, but that happened long before I started taking Krill Oil. Dr. Mercola says that an Omega-3 deficiency can cause weight gain. I've read that Krill Oil is better for you than Fish Oil. I take one made by Natrol - buy it from Vitacost.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/07/18/Can-Krill-Help-with-Weight-Reduction.aspx

FYI - If you are having any kind of surgery or colonoscopy, fish oil/krill oil should be discontinued a week prior, to prevent bleeding issues.
