What Does This Mean, Anyone Know?

Tried Google, no luck. For months I've been again watching all the reruns of ER.

Very often when a doc is working on a patient doing some kind of procedure, he/she will say "Got a flash". I can't for the life of me find out what this means!

Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks so much.

It's a surgical procedure when the surgeon asks his/her first assistant to slowly release a clamp, so that the surgeon may suture the tissue. The clamp is then closed so the surgeon can suture around the clamp.

My niece works as a surgical assitant.
