It's starting to become a theme that face masks may soon be recommended for all. Got mine from Etsy (before those go way up). My Son works in fast food at Subway...

Good idea.

I have felt, from the beginning of tihs, that everyone should be wearing a mask....for the protection of others and for what even minimal protection it offers the wearer.

I've been wearing masks since the beginning of flu season. I didn't pay those folks any mind about masks not needed when the virus hit.

I was lucky because I stockpiled every time I went inside a CVS or Wallgreen store during flu season.

I'm out & about as needed & to date not symptomatic. Not even a sniffle. So either the masks is working, helping and/or I am a carrier (Typhoid Mary). No testing in my area yet.

It has been reported that most people do not know how to properly put the mask on and that a person touches their face to much when putting it on...

I won't wear one until someone can convince me they do any good. I heard a doctor say wearing anything other than the N95 mask, is like trying to stop a flooding dam with a chain link fence. Compared to bacteria, the holes in fabric are huge.

If I were sick and had to go out, I would consider wearing a mask. But I see no reason to do so if I'm healthy (so far). As others have pointed out, I don't think a mask really helps prevent getting sick. But if it makes you feel better mentally, go for it.

DH and I went to our local hospital yesterday and all nurses had on handmade masks.

I guess If it makes you feel better, it doesn't hurt. As for me I wore a mask every day of my work life in the OR, and I'm in no hurry to wear one again, unless it's considered necessary.

I got out my sewing machine this morning (which I haven’t used in several years) and followed a tutorial on YouTube to make a homemade mask. It came out really good. I forgot how therapeutic sewing is!

Theortically, wearing masks could keep the virus from being spread by asymptomatic carriers.

@nana59 : We are fine; DH had a long standing cardiology appointment. We have another Dr appointment in Phoenix next week (we are wondering if that will take place at all or via phone).

My Husband's Aunt was just diagnosed with lung cancer....she had fallen in her home and hurt her neck/shoulder and went into the ER. She said nobody was wearing any masks....she even asked them about why they weren't wearing one? and they told her no it was fine! She got a CT scan I believe and no broken anything but they found the lung cancer that she had no idea about. Very sad. Strange how things like this in life happen....my H's Mom a few yrs ago had the same thing happen....she fell down and was taken to ER and on CT scan they found her lung cancer too.

Perhaps the location of this hospital at the time just wasn't over whelmed with patients....it was about 2wks ago I think. Perhaps it's different now.

I have some masks on hand as my doctor told me I was to wear one while cleaning the house....I am allergic to dust mites. I hate wearing it....but who knows they might come in handy for the future! I will wear one if I think I should soon....lady at Rite Aide checking me out had one on.

It's not just putting on PPE, it's also removing and disposing of it.

A friend of mine, out of state, has been making them for healthcare workers in her area and mailed 2 to me yesterday.

A favorite Etsy seller of mine is also making them. I saw them today and ordered 3 for my sister, brother in law and niece. They're going to be shipped directly to her.

There are no masks in the stores I've been to and I'm not going to start driving the city looking for them as that goes against the "make only necessary trips out" edict.

I know that these aren't made to code but I figure something covering my nose and mouth has to be better than nothing.

@Dusty1 I used the YouTube DIY Face Mask video posted by Treasurie. It was pretty easy. Luckily I had a piece of elastic to use but she showed how you could use string or lace instead. Good luck!
