FUNERAL PARLORS

For some of you who are not taking this crisis seriously my friends family owns a couple of funeral parlors here in new york and sadly has been working 24 hours non stop for the last 2 weeks.the ages of the deceased are from 10 and up.only to get worse here in new york the next couple of weeks...

I saw on the news where hospitals are using refrigerated tractor trailers to store the bodies because there is no more room in the morgues.

true here. DH works at a hospital, told me funeral parlors not taking any more people. The hospital morgue only hold 8. They have a refrigerator truck.

this may sound strange, but thank you for posting this, 'cause there are still people that 'aren't getting' it or don't want to get it (aka denial).

just because there are no 'reported' cases in your town or county is completely irrelevant, as people come into your town from other places on a regular basis. just think about grocery shopping. every town in this country does not have a grocery store.

another example, one town that is next to mine does not have a post office. where do you think people in that town go, when they need to ship a package back to qvc?

most people that get tested, do so, close to where they live, not in the town they visited last week.

these are the current choices:

1 - stay in the house and figure it out how to make it work

2- you could wind up in a funeral home or in a refrigerated truck.

some places have stopped in-person funerals. and some funeral homes are refusing to take covid-19 people.

in my state, the police have been breaking up backyard weddings and fining the home owner.

i remember 9/11, there were refrigerated trucks in nyc and some of the boroughs every where. i also remember seeing them lined up, waiting to get closer to ground zero to be loaded. i can't think of a better word then loaded, sorry.

I am in WV, and this pandemic situation has forced funerals here to be private, with family only - no exceptions.

Chicago had a heat wave in the 1990s and more than 500 died; refrigerated trucks were critically needed. Before the current emergency, the morgue had bodies piling up because the deceased's family members couldn't afford the costs of funerals. I imagine this will occur in many areas of the country in the near future.

One has to remember how quickly this whole thing developed. When Mardi Gras took place, there were only 10 cases of CV in the entire US, all on the west coast, all in persons who had returned from foreign countries. There was no identified “community spread” in the US at that point. The whole country was blissfully unaware of what was about to hit us. No one in authority in the US was cancelling anything. A short time later, when community spread became a reality, New Orleans’ mayor cancelled ALL public celebrations immediately.

Shoesnbags: There were LOTS of warnings, and many places were already shut down way before Florida and Louisiana took any kind of action. When they couldn't deny it anymore and it became obvious that it wasn't fake news and a hoax, only then did the last of the states that had been dragging their feet start to take preventative action.

I can understand going into denial when something unbelievably horrible is happening. But to believe the professional experts are lying and overreacting, and absolutely pooh-poohing their information and advice is very disturbing, to say the least. NOW they are all scrambling to cover their you-know-what.

Excuse me, @DottieBlue , but at no time did the governor of Louisiana (Dem) deny anything or refer to "fake news." Nor did the mayor of New Orleans (also D). I think that you are confusing Louisiana and Florida, which are two different situations. Gov. John Bel Edwards of Louisiana did not hesitate to shut down the state - we were one of the earlier states to shut down. And Mardi Gras and Florida's Spring break didn't happen at the same time. The Mardi Gras season began on February 8 and ended on February 25. The first case of community spread Coronavirus was identified the next day - in California. No one in the US was shutting anyting down at that point. I can't understand your hostility about this, but in any case, at least get your facts straight.

It will get worse. In Italy, bodies are being left in homes and apartments where they died as there is no place to put them.... and no one to retrieve the bodies.... can you imagine that?

Just five days ago there were posters on these boards who insisted that this was no more serious than seasonal flu and those who questioned the truthfulness of the scientists and medical experts who warned us of the tsunami coming. They referred to them as “left leaning” and also questioned the claims of the frontline medical personnel who said they didn’t have proper protective equipment. Haven’t heard that lately; reality is starting to set in.
