Going to the Store👎

I am venturing out to the grocery store/pharmacy tomorrow to pick up some groceries and prescriptions for myself and my mom. I have to say, I am pretty nervous about this. I have a good sized list as I'm not going out unless I have to so I waited until I really had to go. I'll definitely be keeping my distance from others but still, I really don't want to go! UGH!!! Remember what life was like when we never even gave a thought to just walking into a market or retail store. Now it's become possibly life-threatening (for ourselves and for our family members we are returning home to) to walk through those doors! 😷

I wish you all of the best in the world. I too don't want to go to the store. When the time comes, I will do an online order and pick them up myself. Just remember all of the precautions during and after and you should be fine. Tell yourself "Do Not Touch My Face!" (this is my biggest issue)

Not everyone is taking this social distancing seriously and you can't control everything. My neighbor's high school son had his best friend over today and they were playing basketball in very close contact with one another.

Please try to relax. I'm in grocery or home improvement stores about four times a week. Nothing catastrophic has happened to me or my loved ones. I wash my hands in the store and as soon as I get home.

When you return home, why don't you wear a mask around your mother if you're that concerned.

I agree, I stocked very well but after 12 days am running out of fresh produce. My son can leave things at my door, but I haven't even been near him. He has a store.
I can manage for a month, possibly two if I ration things.
I need to keep well for my dogs. One is 16 and nobody wants the other one, she's hyperactive.
I'm well stocked on dogfood when it runs low my son will bring it. I hope.

I'm trying to order as much as I can on-line and have it delivered. I'm mostly concerned about my 84 year old mother and 76 year old husband. They both have several underlying medical conditions and are both considered very high-risk. Of course, I'm concerned for myself but I am terribly afraid for them! Good luck to everyone who needs to leave the safety of their homes!!😷😞

Except for my daily dog walks, I haven't been anywhere in about two weeks. If it's at all possible, I encourage online shopping and have it delivered. Save yourself the stress and protect yourself...seriously.

@SilleeMee, ITA! I wish my pharmacy delivered but they don't (they are right in the grocery store) so I might as well grab some things since I'll be in there anyway. It will be a quick trip though, believe me! I'm getting my cat's food and litter on-line/delivered and that's a huge help! 😀

@hooked on books Today I made a trip to my nearest Sam's Club. I had a pretty good sized list, so I decided to just bite the bullet and go. After I was dressed, I sat here for half an hour before I left. I have anxiety, but normally have it under control. But lately that's Been hard to do. I'm a very social and outgoing person. So I had a good talk with myself and went on my way. The store was busy, but not anywhere near crowded. Everyone was very mindful of keeping distance from each other. Most items were limited a to one per person. That was fine by me. The only problem was no tp, paper towels or napkins. Also no bread, chicken, ground beef or sausage. Cereal was very limited. I was disappointed because that means I have to go back out again soon. But I'm very grateful for what I was able to get.

I know what you mean! My daughter was wondering who should go to the store, she or her husband. They have a new little one so you think you don't want to get it at the store and bring it home!

A few weeks ago I wasn't too nervous about being in the store but yes its just not knowing. We can only do the very best we can!

Another difference is unlike several weeks ago, none of my kids take my grandchildren to the store with them anymore.

Oh and many stores are not having pick ups anymore. You know ordering online and then picking up. They are just overwhelmed or maybe protecting their own employees, or ran out of supplies.

@1Snickers - Our PetsMart is doing curbside pickup. You order and pay online, pull up in front, and open your trunk. Someone brings your order out and that's it. I'm so grateful to them!

It seems to me that there is a huge difference between "going out" in an area that's been hard hit rather than in an area where the spread of the virus has been heavier.

DH and I are in the threatened age group, and by the Grace of God, no other major problems, but the first several cases in my state occurred in my community, and that's doggone scary to me.

I want to try to make it until Monday if I can.

@hooked on books I went out yesterday, first time in 3 weeks. I'll admit I was nervous. Put on my rubber gloves and out I went. I started out early, left the house about 8:40A b/c I headed to Aldi's who opens at 9A. Buzzed to the atm first, then ran into the PO to drop off a return & one piece of mail, one woman was there. I let her pass by me before I set my box down on the counter.Then on to Aldi's. A few cars in the lot, I thought it would be sort of crowded inside but no, it was quiet, absolutely no chaos, everyone respected each other very much practicing distancing. The store was well stocked of coure no toilet paper, only a few boxes of tissues. I didn't need either, I didn't notice paper towels. They had sign on their meats ie only 2 of any one product, no problems there. All in all I was able to get everything on my list. Yes I was surprised. Their checkout clerks however did not have gloves on.

Then to Giant Eagle for a handful of things. Again, no problems there either, respectful distancing, no one acted a fool like they did in the initial total panic the last time I was in GE or Kroger. Now that mess was total hysteria to the point of being scary. I was in that mix for a minute and it was someting I NEVER want to experience again!!!

Hopefully you'll have a good day shopping like I had. I was surprised both store were well stocked again except for the tp.

be sensible

most places have restocked from bare shelves, and have lines where they want you to stand while waiting

carts are being cleaned between customers

Against my own word, I ventured out to the big grocery store yesterday.

I chose to go an hour before closing, thinking that there would be few people and limited choices on the shelves. Right on both counts.

I saw a couple of women buying a packages of TP and paper towels. The meats I was looking for were not available. No potato chips and limited canned goods, although I managed to get the last cans of pasta for donation to the local food bank. The store had plenty of disinfectant wipes available to wipe down carts, etc. and I saw few people wearing masks and/ or gloves.

I suppose I was playing with fire by going to such a public place as I am over age 60.

I will go out again tomorrow as the butcher shop is offering 25% off this weekend on everything in the store for cash. I wish there was more room in my freezer as they vacuum seal meats and poultry on request at no extra charge.

ETA: while this store did not have early shopping hours for seniors they did have two dedicated registers for same, which I thought was a better idea. No lines when I went, but used a senior check-out. I was in the store for a total of less than 30 minutes..

I am in NJ but my area has a very few reported cases, including at least one that has already recovered.

@PINKdogWOOD I like Aldi, except I clean my grocery cart with wipes inside the basket in addition to the handle. Then there's the quarter, chain to sanitize. While the items are being checked they are loaded into the previous customers basket that hasn't beeen cleaned.

I ask them to put them on my clean one but they are usually too fast.

I'll probably pay more and shop elsewhere now.

Ordering online is becoming difficult.

It is frustrating when the the product is available in the store aisle A12 but not for delivery or for store pick-up.

What are people to do when they have no one to shop for them.

Not all local towns are offering services and town offices and departments are shut down.

Senior centers are not available for help and the councils for aging aren't either.

The towns use facebook but seniors are not all on facebook.

Some seniors have not choice but to venture out.

It is sad but my friend called me and told me this because she is old 74 she feels expendable and that is why things are such in her area.

Ask your friend to contact some local churches. They might be able to help or know someone who can.

I just saw a heartwarming story about a Yale student who started an organization called invisible hands. They run errands for those who can’t get out.

Well, to those of us who ventured out today, now we begin the 2 week wait to see if any symptoms appear. That's the really terrifying part of it to me.....just not knowing if you've been exposed, despite all the precautions we're all taking. It was very calm and quiet at the grocery store today. Not too crowded and people were very respectful about keeping their distance from each other. There were several items I couldn't get, mostly cleaning supplies, bleach, that type of thing. I did get the last jar of my new favorite peanut butter, B-nutty Irresistible Pretzel though so all was not lost, LOL, LOL! Good luck and fingers crossed moving forward!
