What about the canisters in the drive thru bank?

Gas pumps?

Credit card touch pads?

Pens -everyone uses when you get a prescription.

I heard on the local news that many places will not accept cash now! What if people dont have credit cards?

DO YOU JUST USE HAND SANITIZER AFTER?

YOU CANT WASH YOUR HANDS UNTIL YOU GET HOME AND YOU WILL HAVE TOUCHED ALOT UNTIL THEN.

Before I was able to find some latex gloves at the dollar store, I wrapped my finger in a kleenex to touch the number pad on an ATM and the thing at the grocery store that asks for a PIN when I use my debit card.

My advice, take a paper towel and some alcohol with you and wipe your hands after you touch these things. Trust me it can be done.

Good points!

I think a good idea to not touch these things in many seasons-flu etc.

One thing I wouldn't have thought of but someone mentioned it-wash your hands after getting mail or packages!

That makes sense too!

Something else to think about since the virus can live a little while on surfaces. Take your shoes off outside the door if you can. Wipe down the soles of your shoes, especially if you've come from a store that had lots of people in it.

Incidentally, hydrogen peroxide is an excellent sanitizer if you are running low on alcohol.

Or spray them with lysol.

I do that to my purse and when I used to go to drs offices during flu season but forgot about the shoes!

Many have likely had this virus on their hands, by now. That's why we're being told to keep our hands away from our face and to use hand sanitizers, when out and about.

Then we need to wash our hands well when we get home. Even at home, in a relatively disinfected environment, don't touch your face, without washing hands first. Just in case. The darn problem away from home is, that some people may not have been able to get hand sanitizers because of panic buying.

Remember, this is an opportunistic respiratory virus. I'm more worried about what I might encounter 'in the air' while out doing essential tasks, unable to avoid others, than what I might get on my hands. I definitely don't feel comfortable trying to go to the grocery store.

We can handle sanitizing our hands, lessening transmission through our eyes, nose, mouth, but not virus particles that someone may have released into the air, hoovering in wait. We can't stop breathing. It's why the focus is on crowd control. I wish it was only our hands we had to worry about. That would be easy.

Lysol takes 10 minutes to disinfect. So if you going to spray things, wait a while to touch them. Personally I'm struggling with doing errands. I can't purell after every single thing i touch, I can't avoid touching public surfaces, then I need to get my wallet and touch my bag and it's just very stressful. I see people with gloves on but they touch their personal effects with it and then it's contaminated. You just can't win. I have not used an ATM since this all started. Had cash on me from returning from vacation. I am not tipping anyone in cash anymore. It's great! The $100 I have on me might last the whole year! People don't want it anyway.

you can touch things... just do not touch your face. use sanitizer or such after you do

so i discovered at checkout yesterday, that you can't complete a sale without touching the pin pad.

i was equipped with a plastic baggie so i could put in my pin number,without actually touching the pad, but the step before that, is the cash back question.

you have to touch the littlle screen. solution!!!

i'm putting a stylus in my purse. i'm hoping that will solve the problem.

We can't be in such a panic over having to touch every little thing. The only thing we can do is keep washing hands and don't touch your face and possibly use hand sanitizer. There is only so much we can actually do to help protect ourselves and others from it and going out when absolutely necessary and following the advice of medical professionals is the best we can do.

It is good to see that those who vehemently stated they were not going to change their lives and were going to keep traveling and having fun and treated the threat so lightly by saying it was no worse than the flu are now silent and have hopefully had their eyes opened by all the mandatory closures!

I can't wear gloves because my hands are deformed. So I carry plastic baggies and put them on when I need to touch something then I toss them away.

Thanks for that idea @kittyloo I have a boatload of plastic ziploc lunch baggies that I never use since I retired almost 2 years ago.

I have been doing this all winter,plus i hate touching the gas pump handles.

I wear disposable thin latex gloves for touch pads. I never use the sign in en. I bring my own. I use a small plastic grocery bage over the gas pump. The canisters are a problem. I use sanitizer before and after using them and I use hand wipes for my cards after the transactions.
