Any brand offering a very low price such as Puritans and Piping Rock are not standardized to 95% curcumins to the full mg of the capsule. I did not realize it either until a poster here a few years ago made it clearer to me too. I pay $67 for 240 caps from Vitacost, the others are much lower in price. That is a red flag that the quality is not the same. the Puritans label says 900 mg but standardized only for 100 mg.

I think I understand what you are saying here. This is what is on my PR label for for the turmeric blend. There are three components of the blend...root, root+extract and extract given as 95% of that as curcurmin content. In other words, only one part of their 'blend' is 95% standardized which means what you get in a capsule is not that but something less...which in this case is unknown because each component has no mg given for it.

"Turmeric Curcumin Complex Proprietary Blend:

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) (root), Turmeric (Curcuma longa) (root) (from 10:1 extract),

Turmeric Extract (Curcuma longa) (root) (Standardized to contain 95% Curcuminoids)"

If you do, you need to take it with pepper, because that helps the body absorb it.

You could just start cooking with it and see how that feels. I have some turmeric capsules that incorporate pepper. I think I would get zapped if I would list them here, but if you can 1) consult an expert as other person recommended and 2) look something up online on in a library, you might be well served. Tumeric is a time honored "ingredient" for alleiveating body inflamation...

Good luck!

I have a lot of inflammation and chronic pain from scleroderma. I've been on Rx drugs for this and that...I got off all of it. I did a lot of research about turmeric. Of all the places I found most useful was Dr. Weil's website. He goes into dosage and types of turmeric supps as well as dietary intake of it as a spice. There are several articles there and lots of informative stuff about turmeric. It's where I learned most of the things I know about turmeric.

I buy Vitacost brand from their website, each cap is 900 mg, and standardized to 95% Curcumins, that is very important, some brands may cost less but not this potent or same quality. My DH and I each take one per day. Also contains 5 mg Bio Perine, which is black pepper to increase absorption, another quality factor.

Also, I read some time back that for the best efficacy, one should use a Turmeric supplement that also has pepper in it. I get one from Amazon that is Naturewise brand Curcumin (turmeric).

It also has the black pepper extract.

I take one capsule daily. It says three caps, at 2,250mg, but I just take one so it's whatever 1/3 of 2,250 would be.

Sometimes I think they have you use more than you need so that you will buy more, obviously. I might have started out a little higher and then just reduced after a while. I do that with some things just to get the cost down and still be effective.

This Naturewise product is also, FWIW, organic and vegetarian.

@nana59 unless you are allergic to turmeric, I would give it a try. I take 1/2 tsp of organic turmeric in my smoothie once a day. I have osteoarthritis in my hands and feet with the Heberdens nodules on my finger joints. I have been taking the turmeric for two years and it seems to have decreased the inflammation quite a bit. The size of nodules have decreased and I don't have the redness of the skin. It helps the pain in the hands and feet when the inflammation is relieved. I do have pain in my fingers and especially in my feet at night and I use Arnica gel for that with good results. My husband whose hands are arthritic too takes Turmeric capsules from Andrew Lessman as directed on the bottle and he feels it helps him. I personally think if you can take the turmeric in food it's more effective. I get the organic turmeric at WalMart. I took the turmeric for 3 months before I saw a marked difference in my arthritis and of course you must continue with it. I also love curried food so that's a plus.

I am huge believer in Andrew Lessman and his vitamins. I will not take any other brand, no matter the price. If I were you, I'd call their customer support line, 1-800-808-7311, and speak to someone there about your concerns. You might be shocked at how educated his people are about all that his vitamins do. If you choose to try his, wait until next weekend, while he's having his monthly sale, and huge savings. Your best bet to buy them would be through HSN. Andrew will be on the show Sun Jan 12.

https://www.hsn.com/products/turmeric-200-ginger-root-200/10073552
