More about my back!

So today I went to another Dr ( back to the group I went to way back in 2003), about my back...

Suspect is (among other things...a pinched nerve)...

Omg! In walked the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen in person...as opposed to TV.

So...he sent me out to get an X-ray. He looked at it and said my back was pretty “jacked” ( my medical words) up.

He said he could operate on it to make it a little better...but he’d like for me to loose some weight...first..also he wants yet another MRI....

He had a chart on his wall that showed different colors for weight...you know, body mass, etc.

He was sitting on his stool, so I said, “Can you put your finger on the red part?”

He he rolled over to it and put his finger on the red.

I said, “Now take your finger and push it over to the green part”...

He slowly put it on the green part.

I said now what is the absolute last weight number that’s on green. He said a number.

I closed my eyes and acted like “Jeanie of I dream of Jeanie”..

I said, “Did it work”?

He he laughed and said, “That’s not how it works”.

I said, “I know...believe me”.

I went through this with his colleague when I needed double knee replacement. Eventually, he performed the operation on both knees at the same time and then he immediately retired.

I will of course do my best to loose weight but were it ‘that’ easy, I’d have done it before now.

I keep hearing every Dr and nutritionist that I don’t eat enough food....so here I am...

Stay tuned. Actually, most overweight people know what to do to loose weight, it’s just not that easy...if it was, we’d all be skinny.

Just thought I’d share my day.....

Thanks for sharing that. I just went thru a similar thing seeing a physician for my knee issues.

The "best ortho" in Charlotte NC.........told me to lose 50 lb and all my knee issues would be solved. But come back and see him in 6 months.

The funny part is that the most painful knee is the better one on xrays. My medical doctor is sending me for an MRI of my knee.

It works ! I used to be fat, still not Twiggy, but, I lost 50 . Haven't had a knee pain since. Your knees can't bear all that weight, so, that's why they blow out. I developed bone spurs of the knees.

Kept it off for like 5 yrs. I splurge on the weekends then go back to 'starving' on Mon. Took up recumbent bike and do 25 miles weekly on it. My legs are like concrete now and by the way I'll be 68 in Dec.

Have to decide which is more important eating more then you should or feeling good. Doesn't hurt that I have a husband that made it clear yrs ago he wasn't pushing me around in a walmart electric car and nobody else was stepping up. You have to do it for yourself nobody else cares or gonna help you.

I have lost 35 lbs in last three years and did it without a diet. It started when I took an all inclusive 14 day tour of China (the tour food was beyond mediocre) and lost ten lbs. Next DH was having implant issues and lost 60 lbs; understand that we both started as "moderately obese". I started to eat more on DHs schedule and continued to lose moderately. Yesterday I went to doctor and I've lost 7 lbs in 3 mths. I've lost 2 sizes and could go one more and be at my college weight. I am 76 and have no joint issues (but several other age related things). I am moderately active but never a gym rat.

I have had 34 procedures (going in several times and burning off nerves) and bla bla.

I can't get fusion or any of that because of where the injury is located.

When I was 18 I fractured 3 vertebras. They never healed right and that caused other problems down the line.

I've been to a lot of orthopedic specialists. You name it, other than operation, I've had the latest and greatest done!

He said (among other things) part of the problem is that my spine is pinching nerves. He said it won't take away the pain but it will help the pain somewhat.

I know loosing weight will help but I even asked him and he said it doesn't cause it but it will help.

That's true of everything in life. There is absolutely nothing good about being overweight.

I learned that when I went to weight watchers and the lady said, "Pick up a 5 lb bag of potatoes and walk around with it for a few minutes. Now multiply that by how many lbs overweight you are.

That makes it mind-bloggling. When you put it into that context (carrying around that much weigh) it's incredible.

I've had so many MRI's (among other things) I've lost count. I've had so many steroids put in me...Steroids will break down bone density, but I've had a lot of them.

I won't bore you with all of the other things I have wrong with my back but it's a lot.

I know I will never be pain free. I've heard that.
