A few weeks ago I got a new night guard. I did have to go in for a filling and the dentist did an adjustment on the night guard. Thing is I really don't know how your teeth are suppose to feel when you take it out. It's fine when I have it on but when I take it off I can feel where it was on my front crowns. I know no one else that has ever worn one so wondering if someone can let me know how their teeth feel after taking the night guard out. Thought it was better to ask someone that wears one. I developed clicking in my jaw so she suggested one. Don't want to ruin my crowns.

One of my daughters wears a mouth guard at night because she grinds her teeth. She has never made a comment as to how her teeth feel after wearing the guard at night, and since she’s worn it for several years now, I’m guessing there’s been nothing strange about it to her.

I have horrible TMJ and I have worn a mouth guard for some time. In the last few years I started seeing an orthodontist who works in this field and I now wear it most of the time during the day (but for eating) and of course at night. I get clicking in my jaw a lot and that not a good feeling.

When the dentist does an adjustment to the guard it is causing the muscles to change too. It is painful. Ibuprofen is something I use sparingly but it will help with the pain sometimes.

I've been a nightguard wearer for years now. They're made in a lab by a tech usually, and often need the dentist to make adjustments. The same thing happened to me, feels fine when I put it in, but when I wake up, I feel pressure on my front teeth. Its probably because I'm a clencher and the pressure gets put on the anterior teeth. Its not supposed to hurt, nor feel pressure on taking it out. Please ask your dentist to use articulating paper to see where the adjustments need to be made. Sometimes it takes a few adjustments to do so. Best of luck.

Many times you will feel pressure when removing your nightguard. I have worn one for many years due to grinding. Pressure will vary from person to person depending on how hard you grind at night. You would be surprised at how powerful your jaw is when clenching your teeth. Most of us do it without even realizing it, I actually catch myself when I am driving! The benefits are priceless though because after many years of this you can actually start having tooth and bone loss if ignored. It truly protects the teeth , including crowns and implants from damage. I would not be concerned about feeling pressure at all, discomfort yes, then you probably need an adjustment.

I am a retired dental assistant

I just had one made after having 8 veneers placed a couple weeks ago on top of mouth, due to bad grindong and wear of front teeth.

I've worn mine for 5 nights now and feel a bit of pressure when removing as well, but think I'm sleeping way better than I was grinding my teeth all night long! It does feel a little odd when I remove in morning, but I think that is a learning curve - no pain. I'll give it a couple weeks and see if I need any adjustments.

Good luck!

Fifi1 I'm surprised that you sleep better too with the night guard. I remember waking up during the night several times before putting the night guard in. If the pressure feeling lasts when I take it out I'll go for an adjustment. When she adjusted it I told her that I felt it in my 4 front top teeth. Now I only feel it in one tooth. I wish my insurance paid for it but they didn't. Mine was $600. I went to biofeedback years ago and I do hold tension in my jaw even during the day. I didn't want problems with my jaw so knew I needed the night guard. Thanks for the info. I'm surprised I knew no one that wore one. Just some info, my previous dentist had a woman working there that use to work for an orthodontist. She said if you wear braces and don't get a night guard that your teeth will move again as you age. I believe it because my daughter didn't want one and her top teeth have moved. She has a retainer on the bottom and they have stayed in place.

I have worn a nightguard and now invisalign retainers. The nightguard was made for my bottom teeth only and was a thick plastic like material...really hard. I wore that 24/7 for about 1 month...had adjustments on it....and then only at night for about 4yrs. I remember having tooth sensitivity and muscle/jaw issues along the way in the beginning. For me it never helped me at all with sleeping...I still would wake up 2-3times per night to pee.

Decided to fix my bite...dentist said this would help me in the long run as only 2 of my teeth actually touched when I bit down! So I did the Invisalign and it has helped so much....I have very minor poping/clicking on one side of my jaw...no more painful trigger points on the sides of my face that hurt so bad.

I know there is a adjustment phase whenever the dentist does anything...if yours doesn't totally go away in a few weeks I would request them to adjust it for you...something may just be off a tiny bit and that's all it takes to bother teeth.
