More flour recalled

It’s holiday baking time so check any flour you have. Keep the UPC code in with your flour even if you have transferred the flour to a container. This new recall is for another King Arthur Flour but there have been so many flour recalls and I have not posted every one of them. This stems from the fact that so much flour, from many companies, is processed by Arthur Daniels Midland in the same plant. This time the possible contaminant is E. coli O26, which can cause serious illness.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FDA WANTS INFORMATION FROM THE SITE TO BE POSTED TO INCLUDE THE DATE THE INFORMATION WAS RELEASED SO THE PUBLIC IS AWARE THAT MORE RECENT INFORMATION COULD HAVE BECOME AVAILABLE SINCE THE POSTING. We are taking this voluntary precautionary step because of the potential presence of E. coli 026 which was discovered through sampling. King Arthur Flour has not received any confirmed reports of illnesses related to this product.

This flour was milled at an ADM Milling facility in Buffalo, NY, and was distributed by King Arthur Flour through retailers and distributors nationwide, and sold through our website, catalogue, and store in Norwich, VT.

The only product affected by this voluntary recall is our Unbleached All-Purpose Flour (5 lb. & 25 lb.) from the Best Used by Dates and Lot Codes listed below.

@Mindy D Thank you. I never would have known! I just opend and used my last "backup" and tossed the bag, went and purchased my new "backup"-

I'll have to check the new bag. KA is generally what I use and as you said, season for baking is here. I'd hate so think somebody would get sick !

Thank you. I was aware of one recall , however I'm going to call the comapny , hope they are offereing a refund since they are recalling so many products .

@Mindy D Thank you for posting this....I use KA exclusively except for AP flour....very rarely use AP flour since most baking is bread based.... When I do use I will purchase GoldMedal AP in a 2 lb bag.

I'm done buying national brands. Too many recalls. We live among the Amish and I buy from their grocery stores now. They make their own of everything. I wanted to make my own graham crackers and looked everywhere for graham flour. Couldn't find it anywhere except my Amish grocery store. BTW, my graham crackers were so fabulous I'll never buy national brands again.

Small and local doesn't always mean safer. These small farms aren't really inspected and often animals will be closer to the grain products than in bigger farms that raise thousands of acres of wheat.

I worry that you are even more likely to find contaminated food at farmers markets than in grocery stores. It just doesn't get tracked down when it happens.

Sooner, I agree. I have been to Amish markets, and, I'm telling it like it is: some are very dirty. They seem to evade health inspections other merchants must undergo. Maybe it's on religious grounds, I don't know. I have seen the flies and piles of horse do-do near market tents. Much of the food on display is not well wrapped. Just not sanitary!

I have KA Bread flour so I'm good there.

The AP flour I have is Arrowhead Mills Organic AP flour.

Has none of the recalled flour been used in the processed foods they sell??? I have not heard any recalls for pre-packaged foods made with flour? If there is so much flour being recalled you would think some of these type foods would also be recalled?

Just a very quick check and I found multiple recalls of ready to bake and dry mixes with the different flours.
