Not really an emergency...well maybe. When I was in the emergency room and worried about being admitted I had a great idea. I have since made up plastic bag w/those things I might need: comb, toothbrush, etc. I showed my DH where it is and plan to recycle the contents after 3 months.

Great product is Philosophys 3 in 1.

.

Good plan. Emergency rooms can be so busy at times, staff has little time for anything more than medical needs. And if you do any traveling, that bag of goodies would transition right into your carry-on.

Don't know, it seems a odd concern. Anytime I became aware I was being admitted or being transferred to more a more specialized hospital, I never fretted about a comb. Just tried to breathe.

I love short trips, 1-2 days, I may get to go once a month if I'm lucky so I keep a bag "semi" packed at all times. It's so much more convenient than to try to remember what to pack each time. Basic bathroom items, underwear, slippers, PJs.

I have been admitted a couple of times in 2019 without warning. My kids know the location of the bag in my home, they don't mind bringing it to me.

What they would mind is packing it for me!

Hospitals know it's cold inside, just ask for a blanket. Even a sheet helps.

I think that is an excellent idea for anyone 60 plus especially if you have any health concerns. Being prepared for any kind of emergency is just good common sense like having insurance. You hope you never need it... but if and when you do it is there for you.

Having a little bag of things that your partner might need in an emergency situation say if you were admitted is smart! Much easier than trying to tell someone where everything is( especially MY husband!) Also it is smart for your partner to know where you keep all your medical cards if in your purse... a man in a woman's purse is another whole story!

Great idea. I also took this a step further and made a binder for emergencies full of info with lists of medications, important phone numbers, care instructions for pets/kids, etc. That way, a relative can take care of things at home if an emergency happens.

In early September I was having awful pain in my back. My husband had already gone to bed and my daughter was sitting with me. I finally gave in that I needed to go to ER. We let my husband know we were going in and told him just to continue sleeping, even though he was saying he should come along. It ended up that I had to be admitted to the hospital. I was certainly not expecting that and it was both a physically and emotionally tough time for me. I am so blessed in that my daughter knows me so well and packed exactly what I needed for my husband to bring the next morning. There is no way he would have known what I wanted and where it all was.

If you don’t have a daughter like mine, having a bag ready to go is also a nice idea, like @Group 5 minus 1 suggested. 🙂

Good thread....good suggestions....I am glad a few people mentioned the importance of also having a list of medications, insurance cards, etc. My husband and I recently did this after seeing a neighbor taken to the hospital. Now we both know where our information is if needed. Several years ago I had to take my mother to the hospital unexpectedly. I had to do all the paperwork and was not prepared....especially about medications.
