In the past I've avoided the capsules that are hard as rocks .... I suspect absorption isn't great. I've taken the liquid gel caps, but heard there's a capsule that is finely powdered in gel caps. I've also seen gummy gels but they stick to my teeth.

I'd like to know what you think is best for you, easy on stomach, whatever is worth noting .... TIA!

Greens have very little calcium to meet daily requirement of 1200mg. 1 cup of kale = 101mg & kale is one of the higest in calcium of the greens.

If you value your bones, don't rely on greens.

My doctor also said Calcium Citrate which only comes in hard pills. They also don't have a coating on them to help them go down, so I couldn't swallow them Plus, since I'm already taking large quantities of Vit. D I didn't want a supplemet that also had D in it.

I take a powdered form of calcium citrate which has no vit. D or Magnesium in it. I add powdered Magnesium Glycinate and powdered K2 to it and put it in some sugar free pudding. I would put it in my morning yogurt, but I'm not supposed to have a calcium supplement within 4 hours of my thyroid med.

Really, the only way to know it is working is to have a bone scan. Calcium in your bloodwork doesn't indicate that it is getting in your bones and may actually indicate that it's not. 2 years ago my bone scan indicated osteopenia. I just had a new one done recently and it came out good. Since I am post-menopausal I have to assume it is the combo I am taking.

I stopped taking calcium when the reports first came out regarding the need for it in older people. WIthin about a year my nails were in terrible shape, soft, cracking and brittle. I had never had an issue before. My dr and dermatologist both told me to start taking calcium again but to make sure to take with K2 and magnesium. The issue has cleared up. Use Andrew Lessman's calcium. I did use his Healthy Hair Skin and Nails for years, but had to stop that because the peach fuzz on my face got to be so thick I had to start shaving. Since I stopped that, the peach fuzz is under control.

sidsmom, are you an MD or do you have a Ph.D. in nutrition? I doubt it. Your bones need calcium, the requirement is 1200mg for women over 50. Go without and see how osteoporosis fits your lifestyle. You don't seem open to anything other than your opinion from the comments I've seen you post in the past.

I doubt it. Your bones need calcium, the requirement is 1200mg for women over 50. Go without and see how osteoporosis fits your lifestyle. You don't seem open to anything other than your opinion from the comments I've seen you post in the past.

@ahoymate

Iceberg, are you a MD or do you have a PhD in nutrition

to tell me otherwise?

I doubt it.
Even if you DID, it still doesn't mean a thing.

Common sense is common sense.

Physiology 101=bones are made of living cells.

Blood vessels, proteins, vitamins, minerals....it's not just calcium.

Instead of worrying about getting calcium IN,

worry about having it leech OUT.

Coffee, meat, dairy...all acidic foods which cause high amount

calcium being expelled from the body.

I haven't taken a calcium supplement or drank milk in decades.

My calcium levels are optimum....due to my eating GREENS.

I'm active, lift weights..I don't have a thing to worry about.
