They have discontinued that prep method because the FDA has found it can cause serious electrolyte issues. They are now back to the “gallon of garbage.”

I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to get down that whole gallon. But I guess I’ll find out in a few weeks.

Just had to share something to make this awful prep easier. This was my 4th and as you know, if you had one, the prep is worse than the procedure. I had some Zofran in the house and took it 30 mins before I started my prep and it made a huge difference. I did not get sick to my stomach or throw up. If you need to do this prep I suggest asking for a script for this.

There are different methods of the prep. First time I did it, they gave me a big jug with a packet to dissolve in it. Awful. At the time there was the option of some pills, but I have difficulty taking pills and they didn't recommend cutting them in half. But, there was also a warning that if you still didn't drink large amounts of liquid with the pills you could damage your kidneys.

This time I took 2 Dulcolax the night before. That is not gentle overnight relief. 2 hours later came the cramping and some toilet time, but not so terrible. Then the next day you mix up Miralax in a beverage. They gave a few choices of beverages. The Miralax is pretty much tasteless, so taste was not the issue. For me, it was how much liquid they expected you to drink in a short amount of time. I really did try to keep it on schedule but found myself falling behind. And then it hit, the nausea. So, I'm sitting on the toilet with it coming out both ends. My stomach just cannot take that amount of liquid on it. After that I was done. As far as I was concerned, what was coming out the back side was clear, so I was cleaned out. However, the following morning I did see a little stool when I went. Luckily, it was good enough for the colonoscopy.

I'm on the 10 year plan, so don't have to worry about it again until I'm 71. But, I don't think I'm going to force myself to try to drink that amount of liquid again. I can't even remember the last time I had thrown up prior to that.

I get a colonoscopy every three years. My dad died of colon cancer and I've had numerous (benign) polyps removed.

So far I've had two colonoscopies. I don't mind the time spent in the bathroom once the you-know-what hits the fan, but what I do mind is the disgusting taste of the prep and the nausea it caused me.

With my first colonoscopy I had to use SUPREP. It wasn't that bad - it had a cherry taste. I had to mix it with water and drink two doses. I drank the first portion the night before and the second portion a few hours before my procedure. The nausea hit after the first dose. I was just feeling better when I had to drink the second dose. UGH! When I went in for the prodcedure I told them about the nausea and they gave me something in the IV line and I immediately felt better.

The second colonoscopy prep was even worse. I went to the same doctor but this time he had me use CLENPIQ. It tasted like salty cranberries. YUCK! I hated the taste. This was easier to use, it was given in two ready-to-drink 5oz bottles. The nausea hit after the first bottle and never let up. I tried to drink the second bottle and I was gagging by then. I came very close to throwing up, but thankfully I didn't. I refuse to ever use this prep again. That's how bad it was!!

My insurance covered the colonoscopies with no co-pay. The cost of the prep is a different story. SUPREP had a co-pay of $50 (in 2015) and the CLENPIQ was $80 (in 2018). Thankfully the doctor's office gave me a $40 coupon for the CLENPIQ. I shudder to think how much these preps would cost without insurance!!

I wish there was an easier way of doing the prep. Why can't all these liquid preps taste like a pina colada?

You'd think after all this time there would be a simple prep that didn't cause cramping, nausea and vomiting.

My prep wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. I was lucky that I got the Gatorade/Miralax prep for mine. No problem drinking what I needed to at all.

My sister had the Go-Lightly and really became ill.
