de-capping bottled drinks with plastic seal

What do you guys use to 'peel back' the heavy plastic collar-type seals on bottled items?

My hands do not function as well as they used to. I am having a heck of a time with the Premier Protein bottled protein drink de-capping, especially the chocolate flavor for some reason.

The plastic is so thick and the manufactured perforated starter is useless.

Any helpful ideas other than ripping it off with my teeth is very much appreciated.

I don't normally have a problem but I bought a bottle of juice once and the cap refused to budge. So I ended up buying a set of jar/bottle openers from amazon. Figured I'd need them at some point. It basically goes around the cap and works as a wrench. That style works great because you can get more force on the cap.

The thick hard plastic or the clear collar kind? For the thick kind, I use pilers to grasp the end and pull it back until a piece is long enough to grasp.

I use a seam ripper...........I have them all over the house. They are "handy" for lots of stuff........

I wedge the tip of a steak knife under those plastic seals and make a little cut.then I tear from the cut area with my hands.

A small pair of micro tip Fiskars sissors. They are $9 at Walmart and $5 on Amazon.

The seam ripper idea is a good one too.

I slip a knife under the plastic and it usually come off, and I use a very inexpensive opener for the caps, frpm QVC Kuhn Rikon, K485882, $22.75. It now has a second piece with it, but if you screw it on top of a bottle and turn, it will break the plastic seal and come right off. I hav arthritis and belive me this is really a huge help to me. I also was given a Black and Decker jar opener by my DIL, you set the jar in , lower the top down on it. and push a button and it swirls the jar around, and opens it. I'm telling this because I didn't know they made such a thing, and it's wonderful.

I have the exact same thing - I need it to open bottled tea I buy. I like that it can be used on something as small as a hot sauce bottle all the way up to much larger ones.

Perhaps wear a pair of Playtex Living Gloves? I don't have any problems opening my (vanilla) Premier protein (yet), but putting on the gloves gives you a large "grip" advantage. I wear PLG's when I have a problem opening other items.

I have my grandmother’s jar opener. It adapts to fit any size bottle or jar. There are many types of these on Amazon.
Sometimes I use a dish towel to get a better grip on the Premier Protein top and it opens just fine. Otherwise, the ridges on it hurts my hand.

agree about using a jar-opener. The one I have is an OXO brand (great brand for kitchen tools!) and it will open things as small as a 16oz bottle of water and as large as 4" diameter.

It is absolutely mind-blowing when you first get a good jar-opener. I wanted to go around opening everything, because it was so super easy that it was shocking. There was something one day that even my husband struggled to open, and he's pretty strong, but that jar opener took it off like nothing with ME as the operator.

I am not at all strong and, due to arthritis and injuries, my hands are quite weak. You need absolutely no strength to use this thing. It really is amazing.

This is the one I have. I got mine on Amazon. It comes with this round silicone piece that you can put under tthe item you are opening and the silicone piece fits into the back of the opener, so it won't get lost.
