Definitely do the nasal spray. If you are unsure about using the Prednisone, chewing gum can help. There is also a breathing exercise where you hold your nose and blow air gently into the ears. It's kind of difficult to explain online. It does work. Fluid in the ears can be very stubborn to get rid of. Another cause of crackling in the ears can be TMJ. I would see your family physician for a confirmation that there is fluid in there.

I'd check with an ENT specialist . There's so many side effects from Prednisone . They have some prescription nasal sprays with steroids for those with nasal polyps .

I have suffered for three years. It began when I took cipro and another antibiotic for diverticulitis. It even would go into a Geiger counter like spasm and I would collapse. My first ENT said it was fluid, and put me on nasal spray etc....finally told me not to come back! The next Ent thought it was from my jaw and wanted me to do prednisone. I refused. Through my own research I find stress brings it on and I think the strong antibiotics started it. I mean it began just a few days from the onset of the antibiotics. Maybe you have something different. Mine was extreme. It has settled down after two years and it occurs on occasion.

Anytime I had fluid, the doctor could see the level through the membrane. Just means that it could not drain out the throat for some reason, usually congestion. If it gets worse it can be painful, so I would follow the plan you were given.

IMO you should follow your doc's advice. The only negative for me the couple of times I had to take prednisone was that it made me verrrry hungry! I joked with my doc that if he had to prescribe it again that he'd have to also give me a gift card to McDonald's as I craved it when taking that med. We both had a laugh.
