This article explains “The Lipid Hypothesis” which started in the 50’s.

The Lipid Hypothesis appears to be wrong.

link to article:

https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/know-your-fats/the-skinny-on-fats/

Weston A Price Organization

Yes, this hypothesis was taught to an entire generation (mine).

The article seems to cite many examples of other societies and research studies that show how and why a blanket statement that oils are bad for you is wrong.

An excerpt:

“The relative good health of the Japanese, who have the longest life span of any nation in the world, is generally attributed to a lowfat diet. Although the Japanese eat few dairy fats, the notion that their diet is low in fat is a myth; rather, it contains moderate amounts of animal fats from eggs, pork, chicken, beef, seafood and organ meats. With their fondness for shellfish and fish broth, eaten on a daily basis, the Japanese probably consume more cholesterol than most Americans. What they do not consume is a lot of vegetable oil, white flour or processed food (although they do eat white rice.) The life span of the Japanese has increased since World War II with an increase in animal fat and protein in the diet.23 Those who point to Japanese statistics to promote the lowfat diet fail to mention that the Swiss live almost as long on one of the fattiest diets in the world. Tied for third in the longevity stakes are Austria and Greece—both with high-fat diets.2”

The Mediterranean Diet is at the top of the list every year as one of the best ways to eat and its main ingredients are olive oil and fish. I am a big fan of food existing to put olive oil in my mouth.

Eating the right kinds of fat has all kinds of recent neurological research bringing to light the importance of healthy fats for a healthy brain which makes common sense since your brain is mostly fat.

They are also rethinking salt. Japan is one of the highest consuming cultures of salt yet as you quoted one of the healthiest too. We're all still learning.

I was raised eating Japanese food and food which was cooked by traditional methods used in Japan. The Japanese eat a lot of stuff from the ocean. Cooking with oils is usually done with peanut oil and vegetables are never over-cooked, but are always somewhat partially cooked. Dairy was never a part of my diet and only until I became an adult did I start consuming it. The Japanese consume a lot of salt and MSG. They also consume a lot of canned goods as well as pickled and fermented foods. The rice they eat is white and it is always washed extremely well to remove a lot of the starch. Rice is eaten in moderation. Soy products are a large part of their diet as is fish, pork and chicken. Beef is usually limited and is considered whenever there is a desire for it on special occasions.

The Japanese do not eat corn or anything made from it like corn oil or corn meal. Corn over there is considered to be food for their pigs.

The Weston Price Foundation is notorious for spreading

mis-information.

I’m sure Dr. Price is spinning in his grave knowing the low-carb

community is using his name to spread this mis-information.

When you have articles titled like,

”Soy Infant Formula: Birth Control Pills for Babies”,

that really says it all. Tap out.

As for oil being bad for you, yeah...it’s bad.

Really bad.

Oils are 9 calories per gram...

compared to carbohydrates & protein w/ 4 calories per gram.

All the inflammation to the endothelial system, like sugar,

enough to avoid but the simple ‘food math’ of calorie density alone

is smart enough to avoid....you can eat more than TWICE as much

without the oil/fat...and who wouldn’t want that? 🌼💛

We were taught that our blood cholesterol levels would be raised if we ate too much fat. (Yes, the article explains how this hypothesis got started.)

I have not read the entire article yet either!

I had to run out for a hair appt ...we must keep our hair appts! lol

So, while at the appt, I asked my stylist about...coconut oil. She referred me to her friend “Donna” who was waiting for a client...”Donna knows everything.” Donna told me that coconut oil does not cause heart attacks and does not make a person fat. (?)

The FaceBook groups I belong to advise that collagen (beef) and coconut oil (both topically and internally) will keep you well (if you have forms of Lichen Planus. I know the miracle of this product on my skin... once looking like fish scales (LP) and tending to get rashy with even a look, my skin that has been softened into health from coconut oil truly will not experience LP patches.

Facial skin, on my face, has momentarily lost all form and function mostly everywhere, so comedogenic factors are not a problem. I apply it.

The verdict about fats causing heart disease apparently has not been answered definitively yet...at least I haven’t found the definitive answer. I remember as a younger person, looking up the implications of palm kernel oil...it is still a no-no.

I read that coconut oil/monolaurin/lauricidin are a possible solution to MRSA due to the antibiotic effect. (👀👀)

So, I want people to understand my story because it might be easy to think I am just doing the AIP diet to be “trendy.”

An A-ha 💡 moment happened back in August when a CT Scan revealed that i have a fatty liver (not due to alcohol consumption).

My GI specialist ran the scan at the approximately same time as a routine colonoscopy because I had abdominal pain.

He recommended eating more fiber!

All I had eaten for YEARS was canned tuna/green apple for lunch.(IBS) So I began incorporating blueberries/celery/broccoli/carrots into my diet and the pain is now gone.

In August, I visited the dermatologist determined to get rid of my “acne.” And got my diagnosis of LPP.

I wonder if at my age, I might have avoided autoimmune by eating the right things?

Olive oil is consumed by the longest lived people in the world, those in the "Blue Zones".

These people also have other lifestyle factors that are believed to contribute to their long and healthy lives, but diet is certainly a factor.

I doubt that trans fats will ever be deemed healthy in any way, shape or configuration. Everyone in nutrition would tell you to avoid it like the plague.

@LTT1 I am a firm believer in fiber for cholesterol control. It really helps me with my genetic predisposition to it.

I too have discovered I've done things most of my life that were naturally good for what I should do for me. Freaky isn't it?
