Before I bang my head on a wall please give your opinion on the following: DH had a colostomy in fall of 2015 due to cancer diagnosis. In Oct. of 2016 he had a colonoscopy to make sure all was good. Dr. (his surgeon) was happy and said we'll see you in 3 yrs. for another colonoscopy. Now he's due in Oct. of this year and I said we'll have to call for an appointment. DH says they will contact us. I have never had a Dr. call me every year and say it's time for a check-up. This dr. works at a huge hospital with who knows how many patients. I'm sure his office doesn't have the time to track and call hundreds of patients and remember they need this or that. Make it ourselves or wait for them as DH thinks?

Did it in Sept. so they could be done before winter. At he end of Oct. I mentioned calling them. He said they will call when they come in. Okey Dokey. They called in Feb. and asked if we still wanted the windows, they had been there since the beginning of Nov. But hey, what do I know???

I would be proactive and make the call. When you make the appointment ask them if they call to remind patients. I would not put my health in the hands of some office clerk that doesn't have any interest in your situation. Maybe they have a lot of turnover in the staff and it slipes through some crack (so to speak).

I actually got a call about 5 or so years in after my 1st colonoscopy from the doctor's office that did it. I reminded them I was on the 10 year plan, they checked and said yes I was and that they would call then. My family doctor jumped the gun and got me in a little early this time since I didn't get my 1st one until after I was 51 and I'm not quite 61 yet, so I won't be surprised if I do get a call from that doctor's office again. I think my husband got a post card telling him it was time for him to make an appointment.

I would call. But I am in the minority in backing up my doctors, my total knee doctor had his secretary call me to remind me it was time for my Five year checkup! On both knees. My GI Dr.starts reminding me when the 3rd year just starts,as my Chrons dictates every 3 years ! Of course there are several doctors who I would not trust to even remember who I am ! Sorry for being so cynical! Rule of thumb only you and hopefully your spouse will care enough to look after yourselves!

the only reminders i get are from the dentist and from the optometrist. every six months for the dentist, every year for the optometrist. i would not expect a doctor to follow up with me if he told me to wait three years. i would consider that my responsibility.
