I went to a friend of mine that was a chiropractor for many years. As one that has had 1 open back surgery to remove 2 ruptured lumbar discs(L-5/S-1)and 1 experimental procedure done by a friend of mine that is a Spinal Surgeon to remove a ruptured L-3 disc. I also have 3 crushed vertebrae in my neck that both of my Orthopedic doctor friends have told me to leave alone as surgery is 50-50 and could make it worse.

My chiropractor friend died 4 years ago and I have not been to one since he died. I really haven't had the need to see one as he mostly worked on the 3 crushed vertebrae in my neck.

You need to find the right chiropractor that will work and listen to what you tell him/her. Also make sure this person does nothing without taking x-rays of your total spinal column. If they refuse walk out the door and never go back.

Those in this field help many. My Spinal Surgeon practices in our State Spinal Center and they have added a Chiropractor to their Team. That in an of itself should tell people that what the AMA thought about Chiropractors decades ago has changed.

If you do not do exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscle groups and also to give more flexibility to every muscle on the back side of your body? It is time to start and the stretches should include every muscle from the neck/spine/hamstrings/calves/Achilles tendons and a bit for the Plantar Fascia also, but very easy with that one.

Back issues can become chronic if one does not take care of them and by that I mean the above regular(as in daily)strengthening and stretching exercises.

I loved mine....gotta find a new one. Mine was wonderful, but what he did was unprofessional (IMO).

He closed his business. Clear up until three days before he closed his business he didn't tell anyone and still made "fake" appointments even though he knew he wasn't going to be there. He then send out letters to all his patients that his business would be closing in 3 days.

So my appt. was Dec. 4th. I got the letter dated Dec. 11th that he would be closing on Dec. 14th. He KNEW he wouldn't be making my January 8th appt. that he'd made the week before.

Strange!

Word is out that he is moving to the city and going into business with someone else.

Sorry...this isn't what you asked about. LOL

Just go to one that uses an ACTIVATOR. That is so much more pleasant than the old fashioned way of cracking a popping everything. There is no comparison in methods.

I used one once. My lower back pain wasn't stopped but I'd go back to him if I am ever in that kind of pain again. I was told by a surgeon that I could use my Pilates as long as it didn't hurt. I didn't have surgery and I really feel like the Pilates has kept me out of the chiropractor's office. I used a chiro that was suggested by a friend.

I went to one years ago...I had lower back pain. He used some kind of heat treatment and then ice ... and eventually went into the twisting and pulling. It did help me out tremendously .... only thing I didn't like was he kept having me come back for months (two or three times a week) ... I stopped going after I started to feel better ... (even though he wanted me to continue to go back)

I've been going to one for 15 years whenever I have back or neck pain. He does a great job of relieving the pain. I go once or twice a year if my back gets out of whack. I like my chiro because he doesn't try to sell me all kinds of supplements and devices unlike some. Ask around to see if you can get a recommended chiro from a friend.

My husband and I have been going to chiropractors for years, and have seen 4 or 5 different ones. They do have different procedures, so if you are not getting results from one after awhile, try another. With my last issue, which was my shoulder, it wasn't getting any better. I told him to be more aggressive, which was more painful, but what I needed and it got better quickly. So be sure to speak up. And just keep in mind that you may feel worse before you get better. That is part of the healing process. Your post reminds me that it is time for me to make an appointment and get a back tune up! Good luck to you.

I see my Chiropractor every other week, have been for many years. I have a tailbone that likes to go out on me and it causes hip and leg issues. Before I started going to the Chiropractor I had lots of little aches and pains, now I really feel good and find it very helpful. My insurance helps to pay for it so it is a lot more accepted than it use to be. It's a big part of my wellness program. Wish you luck hope you find a Chiropractor as good as mine!!!

I had lower back pain last summer for about 6 weeks. I was desperate and had no medical insurance. I had been before to other for migraine and never really got great satisfaction or manipulation of my back. The one I picked was a young petite woman and she really knew her stuff and was always able to crack my back in several areas. My back was better within a couple of weeks and I was very happy. Unlike the rest I had been to, she didn't keep me coming back forever with no results. Just until I was better. I loved her.

Glad to read so many nice comments about chiropractors. Often they are passed over and given a hard time by the established medical community (md doctors). I know I was helped by one when I fell off a ladder. And I have a family member who is a chiropractor in another state unfortunately for me.

I went to an excellent one until he bough a practice somewhere else. I had compressed discs in my neck and he corrected it to about 97% of normal. A coworker had compressed discs that were not as severe as mine. She had surgery and to this day cannot move her neck much. I did have to go for nearly 2 years and I went 4 times a week for a month then 3 times for about 6 months then 2 times for the rest of the time. I was there for nearly 2 hours for different types of therapy plus the neck adjustment. It was well worth it. I also went for other things including shoulder issues that were helped without steroid shots. All chiropractors are not equal so you have to find a really good one. Ask friends and coworkers for recommendations and look online at complaints also.

I love my chiro too. She is a kinesiologist/chiro so I am never adjusted the same way each time but only for the areas that are bothering me. Just remember that one appt may not do the job. It can take several . I go whenever I feel the need, usually 2x a month as my insurance covers 24 visits a year. The key is to relax as much as you can and don't do anything strenuous that may undo the adjustment, for the next day or so.

I love mine too. I am not thrilled with the office space, but I continue to go there because I like him a lot. When he's not there and a sub fills in, I'm not happy because they don't do as good of a job as he does.

It's like getting a tune up. My insurance covers 100 visits a year, so I could go twice a week if I needed to. Now I go about once a month or whenever I feel that my neck/shoulders or lower back are "tight."

I never believed in them. I've heard horror stories about them. So, I lived with lower back pain for about 2 years. Finally, I asked a friend what he did because he was in awful shape and two weeks later he was playing Tennis. He gave me the name of his Chiropractor, and I went. Thank goodness I went. My back is soooo much better now. I go once a month now for maintenance. I wished I hadn't waited so long.
