Had to go to Dr. this afternoon due to suspected UTI and yep I have one. Last August I had to get pre-op tests for hip replacement. Lo and behold I got a call that I had a UTI. I hadn't had a UTI in 35 years. It took 3 rounds of antibiotics to rid myself of that darn thing. I had a culture done too. I had no burning, none of the symptoms I remembered having when I was younger. Felt off that last few days and for the heck of it peed in a unused specium jar from when DH was sick. Yep I could see it was quite "junky". Got meds so hopefully it won't take 3 rounds again. Last time he sent me forrenal ultrasound. Nothing.

Anybody have a UTI that was hard to get rid or keeps getting one. It's a pain when you have no normal symptoms.

Yes, I have issues with UTI’s, and rarely have symptoms. The culprit for me is that I am a carrier of Strep B. Strep B always shows up in my urinalysis, but I don’t always have a UTI. I have to keep reminding my doctor to mark my lab instructions for a urine culture to accurately diagnose an infection. I rarely get rid of an infection with one round of antibiotics.

Drinking a lot of water may help prevent another UTI (or hasten the relief and recovery of this one). Then, continue to drink a lot of water every day to keep your system flushed. It's been proven to be effective. Hope this one is short-lived.

It's a pain when you have no normal symptoms.

It happens when the bladder become "colonized" by a particular bacteria. I had klebsiella pneumonia frequently through the years as the bacteria that kept showing up on a culture. I eventually became resistant to certain antibiotics as shown when they "typed" the infection to what antibiotics would work to get rid of it. It has been an on-going problem for me and I eventually was referred by my urologist to an infectious disease specialist. She put me on prophylactic antibiotics for 3 months and I now get UTI's with less frequency. It can be a real pain, though.

I hope you feel better very soon @CrazyKittyLvr2

Edited to add.....never had burning either...

I had the exact same thing occur.....a UTI was found twice on my pre-op testing and I was surprised, as I had no symptoms either. Each time I took antibiotics and apparently it was corrected. But, I have a Dr. appointment next month, and I think I'll ask for a urine culture, just to be sure it hasn't returned.

I can't remember when I had a UTI, it's been so long ago. I drink a lot of water and I pee a lot so that might be why I don't get them.

One time my UA showed some bacteria in it but I had no symptoms. The culture came back with a staph species and my doc said to drink plenty of water to flush it out then told me to come back and submit another sample for culture the following week. The second one was negative.

Keep AZO handy. Take two pills at onset of UTI and the symptoms will be gone within an hour or two. You will also need an antibiotic (eg: Cipro, Septra, etc) along with the AZO but at least those terrible burning sensations will be gone. A Pharmacist told me to make sure to get the antibiotic, because some women feel so good with the AZO, that they don't bother to call their doctor.

I always have a box of AZO "Maximum Strength" in the medicine chest just in case. I never need more than the initial two pills - that's how fast it works. (on me, anyway).....

Do not take AZO before going to the doctor because those pills interfer with the test.

I am a frequent UTI sufferer. And most of the time they come on without any warning. I've never had one that I'm aware of without the pain, pressure and burning.

Last July I got a really bad one and was put on antibiotics. About a month later I got another. It hit me at work and I was miserable so I took an AZO and made an appointment with my doctor. They could not do the dip test in the office because I had taken that AZO, therefore I had to wait until my specimen came back from the lab 3 days later before she would give me an antibiotic.

After that course, I continued to have the feeling of a UTI although a retest determined I didn't have one. I started to faithfully take 2 cranberry supplements a day and increased my water intake to 100oz a day and so far I have been fine.
