They just feel good to me. Sometimes I also wear them for my in-home workouts.

I agree, if someone has a medical circulation or other type of issue, they might want to see what their PCP or Specialist thinks is best for them.

hckynut

@hckynut

I agree. Mine are fine for around the house or wearing them out with sneakers, but if I needed them for medical reasons, these in no way compare to true compression socks.

I had lymph nodes removed when I had breast cancer. And I had to wear a compression sleeve and hand on my left arm and hand for awhile after the lymph nodes were removed. It helped keep the swelling down. BUT now I noticed that my left leg is larger than the right one.

I was told whenever I fly I am to wear the compression sleeve. But I wish I had also been told to wear compression socks too. No one mentioned that I should wear compression socks to keep the swelling down in my leg.

The compression socks do help. And there are different strengths of compression depending on your need.

They help tremendously if you are on your feet for long periods of time.

As a waitress, customer service in retail, nurses, cashiers, etc.

And after surgery in the hospital they put those compression stocking bags on your legs that pump up with air every few minutes, to keep the blood pumping thru the veins in your legs.

They help on the plane when sitting for long periods to prevent clots, again to keep the blood flowing.

With aches in legs they help too.

It is difficult to find the right compression however. Too much can just be constricting and painful but the right compression can be a great relief! A lot of the ones at the drug stores are too tight, even the large for a smaller leg!

I've never tried the Tommy copper compression.

Spoken from a former waitress, teacher, cashier recovering surgery person etc etc etc.!

The best ones I've ver found were from a Miles Kimbal or Harriet Carter catalog-white and made of a thick kind of cotton material rather than the thinner nylon/spandex type you find today.

I don't think they sell them anymore unfortunately. It's best to be able to try them on if you can before buying.

Flying, especially long flights, increase ones chances of blood clots in the legs. Lack of movement for long periods of time/altitude and cabin pressure, can all increase ones risk of DVT.

Compression socks increase the blood circulation in the extremities of the body such as the hands/legs and feet. Compression Socks and sleeves can help lower the risks of DVT, and the even more serious, PE.

I do not fly much, but because of my 2 separate bouts with potential deadly PE, I would never fly any distance without wearing both. I wear Copper Fit Compression Socks because I like the way they feel, and when skating they seem to help me get my blood temperature up faster, thus my muscles are more ready for my higher exertion types of skating.

These socks are nowhere close to the TED socks I wore during my long hospital stays on a Hephrine IV during my 2 PE episodes. Those were not easy to put on for sure.

hckynut

I wear them daily, to address swelling in my ankles and feet. By keeping those areas compressed, the pooling of blood is prevented and blood flows better. The compression socks offered on QVC have more of a mild to medium compression.

@hckynut wrote:

Those were not easy to put on for sure.

hckynut

@hckynut My socks have a firm compression and I buy the open toe type. It can be a bit of a wrestling match to get them on. When I was in the hospital for surgery this past December, I learned a trick that truly impressed me. It only works with the open toed compression hose. The nurse/aid who was attending to me put the plastic wrapper over my toes and ball of my foot first and the TED hose slid over much easier. Once the sock was on, she removed the plastic wrapper and repeated the same process on the other foot. Due to certain restrictions, I needed my husband's help at home and this trick came in very handy. He used a sandwich baggy.
