I know you did not ask about Melatonin, but I want to say that Melatonin is not a sleeping pill. It's a supplement meant to be taken every night. Building up Melatonin in your body is what helps you sleep. If you take it once in a while, it is useless.

I could write a book about sleep deprivation. Do an Amazon search for white noise. I have a top selling model made by Dohm. Can't sleep without it, which can be an issue in the case of power outage. I'm sure there are apps as well. I got a cheap white noise machine once and swear I heard other phantom noises coming through. It gave me the creeps.

I have never slept well since my son was born. He had colic for six months and that's when it started.

This is what helps me. I burn a Slatkin candle while I'm watching tv for a few hours. I have a mug of chamomile tea and a few flameless candles on. White noise works for some people as well. You just have to find what will relax you enough to sleep for some portion of the night. I have GSD's that snore loudly. That noise actually will put me to sleep. Go figure. LOL! Good Luck with whatever you try.

@halfpint1 Do you by chance have an Amazon Alexa? If so, you can find a white noise recording that you like and ask Alexa to "loop it" while it is playing and then it will play continuously until morning when you ask it to stop. It will stay on the loop setting each time you ask that particular song to play until you ask Alexa to change it back to playing one time.

I can't sleep at night without "thunderstorms" playing on a loop in the background. I did start with a basic sound machine from Amazon like one of the other posters suggested so that would be a good alternative if you don't have Alexa. Best wishes for something that works because I can definitely relate!
