Just updating, if you read that I fell in my hallway Oct 9. Both casts are off now. I'm into therapy for my hand, and my arm is doing good too. It'll probably be a year for things to be more of what I want them to be. But I have a good therapist working with these old bones. Thank goodness no surgery. That really worried me at first. I'm working like a dog and doing all at-home exercises I am to do. Some 5 x's a day, hand ones, 3 x's.

When something like not being able to drive, or tend to your own hair, or even holding your little dog are not able to be done, you realize the drive to get back to what you took for granted before.

So old bones can mend.

@qualitygal---oh girl, how I know what you are going thru----fell on ice in Jan of 2017 and broke my left wrist and needed surgery. Luckily I am right handed but that injury/ surgery/ re hab, was the most painful thing I have gone thru and I went thru many surgeries in the last 10 years----I was 63 and worked my fanny off with the home work from p/t. So hard and painful and couldn't take any drugs to help with the pain--relyed on Tylenol---- but also went thru breast cancer so had lymph nodes removed which makes any trauma even worse because of the lymphedema that can happen.

You work hard; it will be worth it. I got about 90% use back when my arm is behaving---

Hi @qualitygal,

What great news it is to hear. I do remember your post about this back when it happened. Glad that your injuries did not require surgery, as that generally make the recovery longer, and sometimes more challenging.

As you said, we all take simple things for granted, until something happens to take them away, or much harder to do. Guess that is a human nature that most all of us have to plead "guilty"!

Keep working on your at home therapy as often as your therapist says you need to. Many injuries require ongoing specific exercises forever, to help maintain what you call "old bones". If only it were the bones that allow full movement, but we both know it is much more of a complex issue.

You pretty much know much of my recovery history, and at times, many of them seemed I would never succeed. The last year plus, I have not had many things that have kept me from living the life I've known for decades. To say I am elated would be an understatement. I cherish every single day I am able to function close to "MY" 100%, and that this continues well into my aging future.

Thank you for sharing your update with us. I wish you the very best with your continuing recovery.

hckynut

There's a fine line we all know in rehab. PT is our friend too especially if you have a great one.

Continue to mend well.

@qualitygal

Good for you!!!! It takes real strength to do all these excercises through the pain you must be experiencing!
