Tooth Paste--Weird!!!

I started using crest toothpaste for sensitvity a while ago and as time went on I began having heart palpitations. I had not thought ever this would come from the toothpaste!!

Once I stopped using it they stopped! This is just SO weird.

Its not like I was eating the toothpaste. I looked up online and read that others have had this same issue with this toothpaste and other toothpaste!!!

Which crest and what are the ingredients? I've always used Colgate or bakinsoda and peroxide.

I'd be curious to know what ingredient caused that. How scary.

Also, do not use their mouthwash.

Check out Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle from costco dot com. I use this toothpaste and it's great.

I use Aquafresh Sensitive. No problems ever and it's cheap.

I don't know about that but I do know it is dangerous to swallow ANY toothpaste.

My oldest daughter always walked around the house brushing her teeth. She'd swallow the foam/spit from the toothpaste.

I mentioned it to the dentist. He had a fit and told her to always spit it out and gargle really good after she brushes her teeth.

He said, (paraphrasing), "What do you think cleans your teeth and helps whiten them? There are chemicals in the stuff and eventually it can poison you. It would take a lot to make you die (like tubes of it); but it does cause problems".

So, I guess it shouldn't be surprising...

Wow! When I went to my dentist for my 6 month cleaning this past month he gave me a tube of Colgate for sensitive teeth with tarter control. Well, I tell you, I switched back to my Sensodyne toothpaste! Sensodyne is the only toothpaste that has worked for me.

Used to use Sensodyne.

After comparing ingredients I switched over to the sensitive toothpaste sold at Dollar Tree.

I use flouride free toothpastes. Flouride really doesn't prevent cavaties and is toxic. Just Google "Is flouride toxic?"

I've been using Crest brand for as long as I can remember, which is a very long time, and no problems. I am glad you were able to discover it was an issue for you.

Fluoride does prevent cavities. I am 63 and have had fluoride treatments my entire life. Today I still have all of my real teeth including all four wisdoms. None of my teeth have ever had a cavity and I am in good health. Fluoride is the reason why this is all true for me. The most effective type of fluoride to look for is stannous.

You really don't think fluoride prevents cavities?

Flouride has been in toothpaste and certain municipal water supplies for the past many decades. That, plus fluoride treatments in dental offices (and somewhat present in readily available mouthwashes) are the very reason that dentists don't have many new cavities to fill these days. (Ask a dentist if this is true.)

I and others in my "advanced age group" had many cavities as children years ago. Later, my children were given fluoride treatments during each dental visit.

It is not recommended to swallow toothpaste with fluoride.

When a dentist gives a fluoride treatment to someone, instructions are given to NOT eat or drink for 30 minutes to avoid swallowing and ingesting the flouride.

Here's what the National Institutes of Health has to say about fluoride................

. The most important factor for fluoride presence in alimentation is fluoridated water. Methods, which led to greater fluoride exposure and lowered caries prevalence, are considered to be one of the greatest accomplishments in the 20th century`s public dental health. During pregnancy, the placenta acts as a barrier. The fluoride, therefore, crosses the placenta in low concentrations. Fluoride can be transmitted through the plasma into the mother’s milk; however, the concentration is low. The most important action of fluoride is topical, when it is present in the saliva in the appropriate concentration. The most important effect of fluoride on caries incidence is through its role in the process of remineralization and demineralization of tooth enamel. Acute toxicity can occur after ingesting one or more doses of fluoride over a short time period which then leads to poisoning. Today, poisoning is mainly due to unsupervised ingestion of products for dental and oral hygiene and over-fluoridated water.

Even though fluoride can be toxic in extremely high concentrations, its topical use is safe. The European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) recommends a preventive topical use of fluoride supplements because of their cariostatic effect.

i dont have the box it came in now, and the tube only shows the 2 active ingredients. but what i found online about the palpitations that others had too, is Potassium Nitrate - that can cause them in some people.

Be careful of toothpaste as well as other products found in the dollar store.

I had read online that they can contain unregulated ingredients even if they are brand name.
