She had to see a retina doctor and they did a surgery on her eye by putting some kind of "buckle". I can't remember the word for it. She had several tears in her retina, and they decided that was best for her. That was a few years ago though, so they may have new procedures now. I hope all goes well for you.

I have had a tear in my right retina for about 10 years, it's very small and they decided to take a "wait and see" approach. The risks of repairing such a slight tear were greater than the tear itself. So I had been getting eye exams 3 times a year for 9 years. The tear was stable for all that time so at my last exam, my opthalmologist said that I only need to be examined every 9 months now.

I had been having a lot of floater spots in my left eye along lighting so I went to my eye doctor twice and he just acted like it was nothing. But in February it completely detached and had to have surgery at the eye institute in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I had the buckle put in and it’s been a total nightmare. The pain and I haven’t driven in months because I can’t see properly and I have a blob that moves around so no depth perception and perifial vision either. The doctor says it just fine and I say well I can’t see but he doesn’t care. I went foe new glasses but it only helps a little and my eye won’t open up either. So my poor son has moved back with me to help and I feel guilty about that. So it’s been 6 months and I’m praying for a miracle. So I hope you don’t have anymore problems in the future but count your blessings.

I had a hole in retina in my right eye years ago that was repaired by laser surgery.

I have a very high RX; my opthalmologist said the hole was likely due to my extreme nearsightedness. Eyeglasses since I was 5, progressives ones since my late 40's.

I had a retinal tear which was misdiagnosed as optic neuritis. I lost three weeks when the optic neuritis was treated. No sight returned, and I was diagnosed with a retinal tear. Since then I have had four surgeries (last one at the Cleveland Clinic). Nothing futher can be done. I have lost all sight in that eye and now having further issues (cataract and corneal problems). Removal of the eye was recommended because of the pain. I am dealing with the pain at this time. Don't delay with any eye issue!

Two years ago I had flashing in my left eye (just as a huge blizzard was bearing down on our area). After a stressful weekend I was able to see my eye doctor who told me that it was vitreous fluid pulling away and wasn't a retinal tear. Since then I've had a lot of floaters and have my eyes checked twice a year.

What were your symptoms of a retinal tear?
