My cervix has completely closed, so my dr wasn’t able to do one. I was told if I haven’t had any abnormal pap results in the last ten years that it’s okay to discontinue getting them. Ask your dr.

What do you mean completely closed up?? Is this something that happens as we get older??

I am 53 and in meno since 51....my doctor said they recommend paps with the standard HPV test every 3 yrs now and that's how it's been for awhile now. They do want yearly mamo but I have been doing them every 2 or 3 yrs as I find them very painful (I do have implants too) she seems to be fine with this as no family history of breast cancer.

@tsavorite Not sure if the medical term is "completely closed up" but whatever it is, that is what it feels like. I think there is a small percentage of women that experience this. It makes it difficult if not impossible to have a pap test. I have gone in before when they couldn't do one because of this. For many many years they used a child's speculum. I think it is from a major loss of hormones. No amount of lubrication helps. That is all the info I am going to give here, but don't worry about it if it hasn't happened to you.

FYI You should consider having a thermogram if you have implants. A mammogram can ruin them...as in, burst them or misshape them.

HTH

@tends2dogs Thank you for the information....I will ask my doctor about the thermogram instead...never heard of it! Anything that makes it less painful is best.

At age 80, I have never had a problem, but my geny retired, and so did I. I still have my overies, but had a LeForte 15 years ago, and that is my reason to keep going. A LeForte is the procedure to keep your bladder from decending out of you.

I was told last year at the age of 61 that I didn’t need to have them any more because they’ve always came back negative. I still go because she still does a breast exam and to give me the paperwork for a mammogram. I might make this year my last but not sure or I might just go every other year.

I'm still having them (I'm 63), but I had endometrial cancer 5 years ago so I'll probably keep on for at least a few more years. I had a hysterectomy with ovaries removed, no further treatment, and it was caught very early. I'll think more about it once my oncologist releases me...hopefully after my next CT scan, which will be in January.

I've been wondering about mammograms, too. My mom had breast cancer, though, so I guess I'll continue those for awhile longer, too...at least as long as they are covered by insurance and/or Medicare.

Since I have never had a negative Pap test, my doctor says I no longer need to have one. I'm over 65. Of course, if some related symptoms developed that would be a different story.

I haven't had one in several years and I'm 55. No more period; I can't justify going anymore. Besides, I HATE it. If I start bleeding or something falls out, that's when I'll go again.

Also, I only had two mammograms. One at age 40 and one at age 41. I stopped because they were painful and they left me very bruised. Then I read that it is very, very bad for breast tissue to be bruised. So no more mammograms. I do self checks. To be honest with you, I truly believe it's the mammogram itself that gives women breast cancer. You can disagree all you want, but I'll never get another ever again.

My last physical at age 60. I was not thrilled with having to have a pap test done but it had been about 4 years so my doctor suggested I have one...... I have never had a positive test for anything bad my entire life. This last test was the same.
