I don't know which is worse taking those pills or just dealing with it.

All I drink is water so I do drink a lot. Since it's hot now I'm drinking 80 oz plus every day. Sometimes as much as 128 oz.

So far I have not had any issues with my teeth. I did not know I had dry mouth until the dentist told me.

I only take NP thyroid for my thyroid.

I know how doctors push pills but not on me they don't. Every time the doctor tries to prescribe something I tell him I don't need it. He thinks I need to take a statin & I told him No Thanks. My levels are fine IMO.

Unless I absolutely need it I'm not taking it. I won't even take an antibiotic unless I have to. I refused it when I was told I had walking pneumonia. Since I did not feel sick I felt it was not necessary. The doctor said it would go away on it's own it would just take longer so I said well I'm fine with that. LOL!!!

He told me I have patients come in here daily wanting antibiotics that they will not work for & you come in here . When really needing them & refuse them???

@Nightowlz I am glad to hear this about you. I know people that demand an anti biotic and the Dr. will give it to them if they scream enough. I agree with statins also. I refuse. They are a big money making racket. They cause diabetes now. I have a wicked family history of diabetes, so-- NO THANKS!. I refuse all immunizations as well. See the more stuff they have you on , the more visits you need. I refuse to spend my life runiing for Dr.'s appointments. I haven't taken a antibiotic for about 16 years. I have a lot of medical in my backround, so I know too much sometimes. LOL

@BalletBabe

I thought I read about Statins not being good for diabetics. My dad had diabetes. Don't know how he got it as nobody else in the family had it. My older sister is borderline & started taking metformin. I told her she could control it if she eats right & exercises. She says she will end up like dad. She thinks it cannot be reversed.

I'm doing what I need to keep from it. I walk at least 4 miles per day. Try to watch what I eat. I also take supplements which IMO have helped me.

I don't take any immunizations as well. Last Tetanus shot I had was when I lived in Hawaii in the late 60's. LOL!!! Not taking those flu shots etc.

If I can take a supplement over a prescription drug that's what I'm doing.

I hated it last year when I had Shingles & had to take prescription meds. I told the doctor that's the most prescription meds I have ever taken besides my thyroid medication which I use the natural form NP Thyroid.

They tried to give me a shot when I had a sinus infection I said No Thanks. I picked the pills over the shot.

I probably know a lot of medical stuff from the research I have done. The doctors don't like it. LOL!!!

@Nightowlz No the Dr''s don't like it but this is my body not theirs. I like you walk everyday but I only go 2 miles. BUT I never stop all day. I have a lot of yard work. I am never without something to do. Yes they have linked statins to Diabetes. I have to admit that everyone that has it on my side is very over weight. I have never been over weight. That is from my dance back round. I am sure my Dr.'s don't like it either, but too bad. I like my Dr. and I am finding is that the insurance companies are pushing the Dr.'s to push this stuff on us. That makes me angry. Amost every medication can cause something else. There is a Dr. on you tube. He was a M.D. and he got out of it and because a Chiroprator because he didn't like what was going on. I just had a third person I know die from a Colonoscopy. THey don't tell people how dangerous they are. Really said what is going on. Do what you feel is right and keep walking.

@BalletBabe

My dad was not overweight & never was. He was not diagnosed as diabetic until his 60's.

Watched a new show last night about Kool Smiles Dentist that were ripping off Medicaid by doing all kinds of work on children's teeth. They had them wrapped up so they could not move so they could clean or work on their teeth. They were doing root canals on 5 yr olds. Surely Medicare knows a 5 yr old does not need a root canal on a baby tooth.

Next weeks show is about a doctor giving chemotherapy to patients Without cancer.

I know doctors try to get you to take Statins etc. 1 pill causes a problem so they want to give you another pill. I already told my doctor I'm not doing that. If I did not have to take my thyroid meds I would not but I know what happens if I don't.

At least DH does not take anything.

He saw my doctor a few months back. My doctor said I heard you have not seen a doctor since before I was born. LOL!!!

I think he's 36 now.

My doctor wants me to have a colonoscopy. He said I could do the ship me to lab test at home. I was going to do that but if it shows something I would have to have the colonoscopy anyways. The Ins would not pay for it then because it would be diagnostic not preventive. Not happening. I'm not getting stuck with the bill.

@Nightowlz To me that they would not pay if something showed is pathetic. I am sure that when Kodak went into business, that is not what they had in mind for a camera. I used to have a chatroom for many years. We used to get on these colonoscopy stories that we would laugh till we cried. By the way---Do you call Fed Ex or UPS for a pick up???? Do you know how full of bacteria stool is??? I did the one with the card that you smear on for 3 days many many years ago. You know I was only in my early 20's. It showed blood and they put me through so many tests it was awful. Turns out everything was fine. They can keep their tests. I signed a paper so my Dr. would not be help accountable for my decision. THey better leave me alone. They are messing with an Italian here. LOL Oh yea and if you take the card, and don't do the test, they bill the insurance company anyway. You pay to walk out with that card.

@BalletBabe

Can hardly wait for my next appt since I decided not to do the ship it to the lab test. I have no idea how it ships since I have not done it.

Guess my doctor will want me to sign some paper next. Never been asked that but I have been told several times to find a new doctor because I won't do what they want.

It's my body it's my choice. Get over it.

I only go to the doctor once per yr for labs so I can get a refill for my thyroid meds. If I did not need that I probably would never go just like DH.

I'm sick of all the tests they think you need or all the pills they think you should take.

For years I have suffered with dry eye. No drops really helped me that much. I even put them in 4 times a day. Having allergies did not help the situation. Taking anti histimines dries up everything but my nose.

I saw my eye Dr. about 5 weeks ago and he was telling me that they can draw your blood and they spin it and use a part of it to make this serum. It cost 100.00 and no the Insurance companies won't pay. I decided to try it. WOW it has made me feel like I don't remember feeling. I don't need any eye drops anymore and it lasts about 2 1/2 years. (I spent more then that in a year for Thera tears in a year

I just wanted to pass this along incase any of you suffer with this condition. You will need a eye Dr. to get it. I hope that this helps someone, because it is a miserable thing to deal with.

They will draw the blood there and make you up the serum and it takes about a half hour. You will leave with the eye drops. use twice a day until gone and it took me about 5 weeks to use it up.

Blood Product-Based DES Treatment Options

Scientific Rationale
Human blood has been for many decades the source of a wide range of cell-based or protein-based therapeutic products. Cellular products include red blood cell (erythrocyte) concentrates, buffy coats/granulocytes concentrates, and platelet (thrombocyte) concentrates. Therapeutic proteins encompass coagulation factors, albumin, and immunoglobulins. More recently, new platelet-derived preparations, rich in growth factors, have been increasingly used for therapeutic applications in wound healing, tissue repair and regeneration (55), and in vitro clinical-grade cell propagation and tissue engineering (56).

There is now great interest in the application of human blood derived products as eye drops for DES. The most common blood product used as eye drops is serum, which is obtained by a physiological clotting process of blood collected without anticoagulant, as described in details below. The therapeutic benefits of blood-derived serum eye drops (SED) are probably multifactorial and may be explained by a composition that, in part, shares similarities with that of tears (32–34, 57). Like tears, SED contains carbohydrates, lipids, and various electrolytes, but 10 times more proteins including albumin, fibronectin, and transferrin (33). SED contains natural antimicrobial components, like complement component (58), and IgG, but less lysozyme than tears (32). Tears and SED provide vitamins and both share a similar osmolality (close to 300 mosm/l) as they contain comparable sodium and anion levels, and a similar pH (close to pH 7.4) (33, 59, 60). Potassium ion levels are about five times higher in tears than in SED, but calcium ions and phosphate levels are less in tears than in SED (33). However, the total protein content of tears is only about 10% that of SED (33). IgA is the major immunoglobulin in tears, playing a role in protecting against infections. Vitamin A is less in tears than in serum. Vitamin C and glutathione antioxidants are present at higher levels in tears than in serum. Most importantly, SED, like tears (61), also contain a mixture of cell growth promoting agents (62, 63), since blood clotting is associated with a degranulation of the platelets and a release of a plethora of growth factors from their alpha-granules (56, 64, 65). Growth factor composition is said to be qualitatively equivalent in tears and serum, but concentrations may be higher in serum, as is the case for transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). Table Table11presents some of the known similarities existing between tears and SED.

Serum Eye Drop

Preparation
Serum refers to the fluid portion of blood, devoid of cellular components that is obtained by letting blood collected without an anticoagulant to clot. It is typically prepared by collecting blood from patients (autologous source) or donors (allogeneic source), allowing the blood to clot for several hours prior to a centrifugation step at ca. 3,000 × g for approximately 10 min at 20–25°C to recover a supernatant serum. Serum may be passed through a 0.22-μm pore-sized filter for bacterial sterilization and clarification (34, 57, 66). In such a preparation, the platelets are not concentrated compared to the level found in the blood circulation, by contrast to newer SED formulation made from platelet concentrates where platelets are threefold to fivefold enriched compared to blood. When SED are made from platelet concentrates for transfusion, the content of serum plasma protein depends upon whether the platelets are suspended in 100% plasma or a mixture of plasma and platelet additive solution (PAS).

An informative survey of methods used at international levels to prepare SED has recently been conducted by the Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) Collaborative (67). A summary of the preparation methods of SED is illustrated in Figure Figure1.1. Briefly, this survey indicates that SED for clinical use are prepared by national or regional blood establishments (also known as blood centers), as well as by hospitals or medical centers. Although most centers are manufacturing SED of autologous origin, an increasing number is now producing SED from allogeneic blood donors (68–70). When the SED are from allogeneic origins, procedures are in place, e.g., by preparing SED from AB group donors to hold a single blood group inventory or by donation screening to match all blood groups to ensure hemato-immunological matching between donors and recipients. It is, however, still unknown whether presence of anti-B agglutinins affect corneal healing (67).
