Julie...due to unsuccessful surgeries my husband is no longer able to move much...and this was a man who prided himself in his athelic ability. We trained together for many events. I now am so appreciative that I have the choice...we forget that the mundane and what at one time seemed such a chore now becomes a priviledge and joy. I am so grateful that I have the choice to exercise.

Given up on their New Year's resolutions yet?

It's my 1 year anniversary for quitting smoking so I'm celebrating eating a bunch of grapes and celebrating that I dropped almost 30 lbs since August but I did tell myself on Jan 1st not to be so hard on myself.

I do beat myself up, I think too much so that's my main issue...wish I had "thicker skin"

Mine wasn't health related, so does it count? I messed up the very first day. I'm kind of embarrassed to even admit what my bad habit is... I say bad words when I'm upset. They just fly right on out. Like nothing diffuses the pressure cooker of upset more than saying a bad word or something.

Darn good thing I live alone...but still I shock myself sometimes SO trying to get better at it.

I'm with you on the thin skin thing. I've just accepted that I'm a sensitive person, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think the world needs us, too. I just have to stay far away from conflict, lol.

Congrats on your successes!

Never, ever beat yourself up over anything! I used to do that but I stopped. Broke the bad habit. You need to hear good things about yourself.

I do not make NYRs; it seemed to be the fastest way to failure. I also never waited until Monday to start diets.

I am doing well, continuing to lose weight and eat healthy and all sorts of other things. It is going to be a good year!

I'm proud to say that I am still going strong with my New Year's Resolution! Admittingly, this is something I started the middle of November but I'm still religious about doing it everyday. I had my husband drag the treadmill out of the closet for me. I dusted it off and have been using it every single day for almost three months now! I started out doing 30 to 40 minutes each day and have worked up to 50 minutes one day, an hour the next and so on. I feel better than I have in a long time. I even tried on a sundress this morning that has been hanging in my closet (with the tags still attached) for three years. It fits!!! It was a wee bit snug before I started all this and am so happy to be able to wear it (if it ever warms up, that is)!

nantucket shore ~ congratulations on your achievements! You should be very proud of yourself!

BUT, I guess it is a big deal, sometimes I miss it but lately not at all, it was never a stress reliever for me.

nantucket shore ~ 30 pounds is a healthy amount of weight to lose for that timeframe. Just remember if you take off too much weight too quickly it's hard to maintain. As for that extra slice of pizza? No worries ~ a slice of pizza is just that ~ a SLICE. You know something? I don't even own a scale! I'm the type of person that gets discouraged REALLY quick if I jump up a pound or two so I don't even play the numbers game anymore. I figure if I can fit into things I didn't fit in before then I'm on my way! It sounds like you are on your way, too! It's easy for me to sit here and tell you to not beat yourself up. Hey, we all do it! The next time you start to feel that way come back here and read all the positive responses you're getting. Just keep heading in the right direction and you'll be fine!

It was a huge relief for me to realize that I had made my "New Year's Resolution" in April 2013, and by New Year's Day 2014, I was actively living it. Nantucket, you have to change your inner mantra. With all that you've accomplished, I can't even imagine what negative thoughts you'd even be able to think of, much less beat yourself up with them. You are my herof the day! You've actively attacked two life stealing habits and you're making progress with BOTH of them! Cheers to you!!!

I don't challenge anyone's path to success, but if you're interested, please do a search on "fast weight loss vs. slow weight loss". You may find the conclusions presented by research to be surprising. FOR ME, fast weight loss works best, IF my underlying goal is making a change in lifestyle.

Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Don't worry anyone, won't do the smoking again. It's the food that's an issue, somehow somewhere and believe me it was never a problem growing up but it's like I'm eating that there won't be any food tomorrow...sounds strange. I'm telling myself that this is a "silly concept" and maybe just maybe I'm blaming all this tracking I'm doing, counting points and just this last week, not counting, maybe it's a guilt thing I got going on, need to go back counting and tracking points...I'll try that, seeing it on paper is maybe what I need to do again.

Violann...I agree, fast is best for me too....which is why I have never been able to do weight watchers. I get discouraged fast..I need the reinforcement of seeing the scale move. Also, when I am eating clean and best for me, I automatically lose weight fairly rapidly. It is the junk that stops the process, so I know my body is telling me something. I respect anyone who loses weight no matter what strategy they choose (unless blatently unhealthy of course). It is not an easy challenge, but I'm sure it is worth it.
