kidney and thiriod issues

my wife has been having alot of kidney stones over the last year and had several kidney procedures. our regular doctor is concered that she could develop kidney diasese and possibly loss a kidney so he referred her to a thiroid specialist . he thinks her thiriod could be the cause of kidney issue. have any one had or know anyone that had that type of problem? thank you for input.

@Pooky1, my SIL has kidney disease and there is a link with the thyroid. I would suggest taking her to see a Nephrologist.

Parathyroid disease produces to much calcium and can create kidney stones.

They will test her calcium and parathyroid numbers with blood tests.

Your general practitioner can order those tests and if positive you usually end up talking with an endocrinologist.

Yes...I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease and my internist tested my parathyroid yrs back to make sure I was ok. I have never had any kidney stones or issues but just as a precaution as taking (at that time) Armour medication can lower your TSH alot so they like to be sure it's just the meds and not another problem. Calicum levels as far as I understand should be tested on the annual yearly for everyone. I have never heard of a link of thyroid disease and kidney disease....learn something new everyday! Hope the doctors are able to get to the bottom of this for your wife soon.

Several years ago I had a kidney stone. A few years after that my calcium level in my blood was high. My doctor sent me for tests, and it was found that I had a tumor on one of my parathyroid glands. I had surgery to remove that gland. The tumor was an adenoma and not cancer. I have had no problems since. Good luck to your wife.

Make sure she is checked for hyperparathyroidism, caused by a parathyroid adenoma. I was having elevated blood calcium levels for several years and kept questioning my doctors. Long story very short, a parathyroid adenoma was removed when I had a thyroidectomy last year.
