Anyone had things frozen off at the dermatologist?

I've never had this done before so I don't really know what to expect. What was frozen off were not cancers but were hyperkeratosis ( thick brown spots) and one wart. It was done 4 days ago. They are now dark brown areas with red inflammed circle around them. They told me "They will develop a scab then when the scab heals , they'll be gone."

That doesn't sound like what I'm looking at. Unfortunately, I can't call the office until Monday as they are only in our small town one day a week.

@151949@I put Manuka Honey umf12 on my wounds to help them heal...no scars.I think that honey is the best for healing.You can read about it and decide if you want to try it..My wounds were from a fall though so yours are different.

I've had a ton of pre-cancerous little areas frozen off, never a wart or a dark thick area, but I know that it has taken more than 4 days to get back to normal. I think that I would want reassurance that things look like they are supposed to at this stage and go to a walk in clinic and have it assessed, at least you would kinow for sure.

Yes, had it done....the 'spray' was very cold....I had something similar to what you describe. Mine developed a scap and dropped off.

Yes, I had what I called a beauty mark under my nose a couple years ago. It was a raised freckle. After it was removed, I was told to keep a bandaid on it a couple days. It scabbed over and that was the end of it. I don't remember anything being inflammed. I seem to remember being given some sample packs of ointment to put on it.

I've had a ton of this kind of blemish removed. It can be sore and red for a few days, but I would go to a walk-in clinic just for peace of mind. I've usually been given small packets of bacitracin to speed healing.

I was told to put Aquaphor on mine.

I had a very large cyst frozen off my leg to keep it from getting knicked when I shaved. That took a lot longer to heal and is a very dark red now. It's been several years.

The ones on my face healed and left no scar.

Yes, a couple of times. It didn't hurt--it was just kind of uncomfortable. It takes a few days for it to scab up and heal up.

Thanks ladies. I really like this dermatologist but since she goes around to several small town offices on different days I can only see her on Mondays.

The PA said vaseline and a band aid for 3 days, then just wash as normal.They are on my back so it's very difficult for me to see them & caring for them was up to DH.

I just had 1 done earlier this week, and another spot on my chest excisied and cauterized(waiting for biopsy results).The spot on my face was done with, I believe, Nitrogen. My GP did the same with a spot on my cheek a year or so ago. It did take awhile for the scab that formed to drop off, but no redness or discoloration.

FWIW, the last one I had frozen took a good two weeks to slough off, or whatever you want to call it. It was a bit painful for a few days. After being frozen, it gradually turned into a raised blister. I read not to bother it, poke it, etc. It eventually became a scab and then, as I said, sloughed off and I was left with a smooth area.

I have had it done several times for brown spots, and other benign lesions and marks, I find it is not very effective, I can still see them and feel them and some I have had some done twice. My derm said no after care was needed. I think it is actually called liquid nitrogen spray.

I've had more spots than I can count frozen off. Some scabbed over, others did not. I was told to use Bacatarin, or something similar until the area cleared. If it did not clear, I went back to the derm and had the spot (s) excised and biopsied.

After years of baking in the sun using baby oil with iodine, my Celtic skin makes me poster girl for skin cancer. I've never left the derm without several removals. With some I was sent to the plastic surgeon. I've also gone to a derm surgeon for Mohs surgery.

In my teens I had psorisis and was told the sun helped the condition. I had a prescription for a tanning salon! Who knew?

@lulu1 My DH is a very light redhead. We live in Florida. He goes to the derm every 6 months and comes home looking like he was in a war. Red spots all over him !

You have previously said that you have many skin tags all over your body. You said the dermatologist freezes them off for $50.00 a piece and that your insurance covers it. You have more health problems than anyone else I know. I would think that you would know what a scab looks like since you claim to be a nurse.

@151949 I had this same thing done about a month ago & mine hasn't changed much. Mine was very itchy, Dr. said he could freeze it or leave it. The itch was driving me crazy, so I chose to have it frozen. Mine is starting to itch again & still has the brown scabby looking thing on it. I can't reach it (mid-back), or I would put some type of cream/ointment/ or oil on it. If it continues to itch, I am thinking of having it re-froze, or at least calling. They charged extra to do this, so it should have gone away by now (at least I thought, lol).

I went to the derm last year and asked him to take off some keratosis or brown spots. He refused. He said they were normal as we age. He also said that medicare doesn't want to pay for that procedure because it's too expensive and that medicare is going broke paying for stuff that isn't necessary. He did check me over to see if anything else was suspicious, but nope.

Mine are where my bra band goes across my back and rubs them making them swell up and / or bleed. Thus - they needed to be removed. The insurance pays for this because it is a necessary procedure. The wart on my leg - she said it has to be removed because they are caused by a virus and will spread if not taken care of.

If you are really a nurse you'd know that hyperkeratosis is a large area - about the size of a nickel - not a 1/16th of an inch skin tag.

Yes. It looks ugly but goes away. Of course if you aren't comfortable with what you are seeing then contact your doctor.
