If you tense the muscle in the arm in any way as the shot is given, it will produce a bruise and a sore muscle no matter how gentle the shot giver is... sometimes we don't even know we've tensed up.

Who did you get that injection from? That shouldn't happen. Sometimes if the person giving an injection is tenative- that makes it worse than a person who has more experience. I do find it hard to believe that the very tiny gauge , 1/2 inch long needle, & the tiny amount of med injected to give a vaccination would produce a "huge bruise" unless for some reason you have clotting issues.

I am sorry this has happened for you. I often react this way to vaccines. The PA at my doc's office suggested wrapping my arm in a heating pad for 15 minutes a few times a day and doing arm stretches after the 15 minutes. Hope you feel better soon.

It has nothing to do with who gives the shots or draws the vials of blood. It's me. I wear 3/4 sleeves during the hottest months when going for my lab work every four weeks. All my neighbors, family and friends know it's a lab draw day simply by what I'm wearing in really warm weather. Beats having people look at me like I've been battered and abused. Have noticed other patients with similar brusing over the decades.

Some of us are prone to weird things. Frankly, I don't think it's anything serious and don't worry about it. Grateful it's not a serious reaction that sends some to the ER! Hope the vaccine keeps you healthy for many, many years.
