In the 1960's there were no "special/running/jogging/walking/basketball, and on and on " Shoes". Socks for myself, special or otherwise, did not prevent my getting friction. Double up, really? Must have had some shoes that were either too big(size), or too wide, and if not? Double socks makes it worse for myself, and 100's of other runners I know, not by experience, just a basic human physics.

Unfortunately, many that try ice skating think 2 pairs is imperative, or you can't skate. Just the opposite is true, no hockey or figure skates, are fitted using 2 pair of socks. That includes Custom Made for your Foot, ice skates. Hockey and figure skaters(professionals, and good skaters) skate bare foot.

The old 2 sock story was because many skated in sub-zero temperatures, mostly on lakes. I wear size 10(running and all around shoes), my ice skates are an 8 and a half(8.5) men's size. The tighter the better for skating, the skate should be an extension of the foot/ankle, and lower leg.

Moisture, especially wet socks, are a major cause of most running blisters, along with shoes that are too big(length and width). Running downhill is also a problem, because of foot movement. If 2 pairs of socks was the thing, "long ago"? I maybe just ain't old enough meet that era.

hn

Tonight DH and I started our walking..as long as the weather holds out, weather man says snow on Monday, sigh...

anyway the bottom of my feet are sore, I rememer this happening last year but forgot...my shoes are not to big or small, I can't figure out why the bottom of my feet hurt. My feet are not sweaty either.

Are there 'special' socks that I should buy. Currently I just wear those little short white socks, maybe called footies, not sure.

Any ideas? Thanks

I love to walk and walk many miles each week. I wear cushioned crew socks. They have a bit of an extra thickness on the inside of the sole of the sock. I do not always buy the same brand but I know I have bought this type sock at Kohl’s and WalMart. Some even have extra ribbing and elastic around the foot for arch support.

Not it sure this is what you are looking for but they work very well for me. Hope this helps you because walking is so good for us, but not if it makes our feet sore.

Wish I could lose it everywhere else!

I also wear good cushioned shoes with good arch support and replace them after 6-12 months of daily wear.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by your feet hurt but a couple of suggestions.

Memory foam insoles. My grocery store sells them and I tried them in a pair of old sneakers and got some new life out of them. Worked really well.

Skechers with memory form are really comfortable. I've only tried some of the slide on ones but the regular sneakers should be good. I know a long distance runner that runs in them.

Ryka sneakers are good too but a little harder to find the right fit. They all seem to be different. Also if you find a Ryka you love stock up. They tend to "update" the styles a lot. I currently love the Dash 3 and I have many backups. I loved the original Dash but the Dash 2 was totally different and I hated it so I've learned my lesson. Wish they would just keep some items as a standard.
