I do try to drink about a quart of water a day.

I also drink unsweetened green tea (both regular and decaf). I don't usually count that as part of my plain water intake.

Does anyone have goals as to how much water to drink?

Do you find it hard to remember?

I know that when I was working, it was easier to remember because the bottle of water was right on my desk, but now at home, I'm all over (mostly at home) so it's harder to focus on the glass of water I have waiting.

My main "trick" is to remember to drink two glasses of water first thing, the rest of the day it's easier to just have one or two more.

ETA: This is what works for me. I'm not saying it's going to be the same for everyone. Cheers!

DH and I keep our 20 ounce Yeti tumblers filled with ice water each day. We fill them before going to bed. I doubt we drink the recommended daily amount unless coffee, tea, and soda counts.

I probably drink about 4 bottles of water a day. I started doing it when I got a kidney stone and was getting frequent UTI's. It has kept me infection free and now doing much better.

I wish I had known this years ago. I could have saved myself a lot of trouble... A simple solution to a very painful condition.

The original study that concluded 64 oz of water a day included water we get from foods, he didn't mean it had to be 8 glasses.

Tea, coffee, juices etc. all count because they are a water base.

I have trouble drinking a lot of liquid, it can keep me up at night.

I've always thought I must have a small bladder, I can't handle that much liquid, I am up and down constantly. I drink as much as I think I need each day, usually it's something like 42 oz. Plus what's in fruit and veg.

For those who can handle more, go for it if you like to.

I try for 3 bottles a day, so I tend to make 2.5 to 3 a day pretty consistently.

I really seldom drink soft drinks and when I do it's just one 12oz and it's caffeine-free and diet, so it can count a little, but I still don't count it into the 2-3 bottles of actual water I need.

In cold weather sometimes I drink 20oz of decaf tea so that can kind of count since there is no caffeine and no sugar, of course.

These amounts work for me. Water is so very important. I also try to really knock down at least half a bottle after any time I eat anything sugary or otherwise junky.

The dog and I drink Crystal Geyser, but the bird drinks distilled and the husband drinks whatever - mostly from this thing they have at his office that is somehow filtered or something.

We have really good tasting water, I probably drink 32 oz. a day plus, plus my smoothy, soup of the day and 3 mugs of coffee. I drink more than that in the hot weather.

@GingerPeach

Drinking more water has recently become a more conscious goal, because I know it has slipped for a long time. When I was working, the water was always on my desk, I talked a lot all day long to people in person or on the phone, so needed to clear my throat every now and then.

And now, when the weather isn't hot enough---and even after my exercise regimen at the gym--the thirsty feel just isn't always there. It has now become a task that I have to think about, just not automatically do.

I married a guy many decades ago who sweated himself to death every single day on a basketball court or some other type of exercise, and then came home and downed half a gallon or more of cola or milk (both of which are KNOWN DEHYDRATORS!!).

Years into our marriage, I became his ambulance driver two times as he screamed in pain from a kidney stone attack. Docs told him the cola and milk and not enough water were the culprits.

I also noticed that every time we went out to dinner, he would have to get his water glass refilled several times because suddenly he knew he was thirsty. He just wouldn't seek out water himself unless it was put right in front of him.

Live through that ambulance/screaming-in-pain experience yourself or with a spouse, and you will know how important it can be to NOT get dehydrated.
