I have been walking 4-5 miles per day now since I bought my Fitbit. I need some comfy shoes. Any recommendations? I need something with arch support plus cushioning in the footbed. Not Vionic since they make my back hurt.

I like Ryka since they fit my heel area. Just bought a pair of Ryka Devotion 2 Plus but they don't work for longer walking. They were comfy but the bottom of my feet were burning yesterday after wearing them so I'm sending them back.

Has anyone tried any of the Birkenstock sneakers? I thought about trying the Islay low shoe since I find their sandals comfy.

Who makes sneakers with support & cushioning?

I don't know how these shoe makers think you can walk on shoes with rubber sole plus a thin shoe liner insert???

I wear New Balance also for my walking workouts. You have to research which design is best for you. Mine has great support and actually has support for the outside of the foot to help with the risk of twisting my ankle. I bought mine on LL Bean, not sure what designs they are carrying at this time.

My newest favorite for workouts are Brooks Ghost, I don't remember the #!

A little pricey, but I usually go Road Runner and have my feet fit and try on many before making a decision. We belong to their VIP plan so have 90 days to try the shoes out and can return for a different pair if they don't work out. Neither my husband or I have had to return any. I need to get a back up pair, as I like to rotate the shoes. With inserts, new socks and the shoes minus the discount they ran about $160. I'm sure you can find for less, but with a neuroma and arthritic big toe joints I'm not looking at price.

Bummer about the Rykas. This is a brand I like very much. I have quite a few pairs, however, so I haven't purchased any new ones lately. For me, they last super well and we always very supportive.

Another reason I like the brand is that I wear a 7.5C and was always happy to find that size with Ryka. So many of them don't make the slightly wider sizes. A 'B' (the standard medium width) is just slightly too narrow for me, so the basic 'wide' has been perfect.

I also have a few pairs of the Sketcher Shape-Up (I think that's what they were called) and really like those. They also came in the slightly wider size that always fits me perfectly. They are super supportive and comfy, but I think there were some silly user-error issues and they stopped making them.

Just a bit of info. My orthopedist told me that sneakers that are in use often should be replaced every 8 to 10 months. He said while the bottom outside may look perfectly fine, it’s made tough as a tire tread a will look OK for a long time. But, the inside support doesn’t last that well and needs to be replaced often.

Just FYI he doesn’t sell shoes, and is not affiliated with any brand.

I had’t thought of that, just passing along.

Shoes have been a challenge for me ever since my first knee replacement 5 years ago. I used to be able to slip my feet into any shoe my size and just go, but all that has changed. My feet are different now.

I went from a 7 1/2 medium to an 8 wide, and brand wise I am sticking to Spenco, Alegria, New Balance, and Brooks, with Brooks being my most comfortable shoe. My shoe collection is very small these days, as I am not keeping most shoes more than 15 months to 2 years. I realize I am sending shoes out the door with no visible signs of wear, but I can tell the support is no longer there for me due to feet, leg, or back pain. As soon as I feel the telltale signs, that shoe is gone.

I wore my Brooks shoes for all PT sessions after my October knee replacement, and think I could sleep in them without an issue. I’m not used to paying $130 for athletic shoes, but will continue to do so as long as the shoes provide what I need. My teacher daughter steered me to this brand, and it has become a favorite.
