I haven't taken either, but I have acquaintances who have done both.

Medifast does get the weight off, but everything is processed and when you get off the plan you'll gain the weight back. I would use it only for jumpstarting a weight loss before surgery (like if you need to have a knee replacement).

Another friend did Nutrisystem and said that the food was disgusting. Again, most of it is highly processed (and soy based).

You are better off doing Weight Watchers if you want to make a lifestyle change.

I was contemplating a program, but decided to create my own, making sure I get a good amount of protein, reduce the carbs, and choose a few from an assortment of fruits and veggies. It's more of a "live it" plan than a diet. If we don't learn how to make the right choices ourselves, going on a plan where someone tells you what to eat keeps you eternally dependent. If you find premade meals are helpful, then go with Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice entrees. Yeah, they can have a lot of salt, which many people don't like, but sometimes it's a trade off.

a gal at work did the medifast and she lost weight and has kept much of it off. i think boredom set in. she has changed some eating habits and that's working, for her.it was expensive and her ins. help pay for it, as she was quite overweight.

i saw the nutrisystem, at walmarts, yesterday. they had the box-fast start and 2 other choices of snack type things. i tried a couple of nutisystem bars, awhile ago, and i thought they were pretty good. they were more like an candy bar treat. that's the only thing i've tried.

i have had friends that use weight watchers and have had much success. i would go that route, before the others. it's normal foods, you just have to do more planning and add exercise. good support system, too.

I still have many old plans saved..

Where I use live there were several locations not that far from where I lived....

Became a life-time member and did stick to it for many years..

However when I did move to new location there were no WW classes new by...

I do not want to start an on-line one as I do need more motivation and answer to weighing in weekly.. That really helped me to achieve the weight lose I did do...

My life style has changed significantly and am more home bound do to health issues that my DH has... I am 75 years young... LOL.

Okay back to your reply and remarks on Medi-Fast,and Nutri-system fast 5 which I am interested in getting. However as I mentioned my local Walmart does not have now. The snacks also would be great to try before I consider starting..

I really don't have to lose that much about 10 to 15 lb's.. This time of year is bad for me weather is horrible.. Freezing tempts and cannot go out.

I do try to do some walking with 1.1b weights in my house have a large area where I do laps... I suffer from bad sciatica and both types of Arthritis so I can't do any hard impact exercise...

Many thanks for your reply and comments.... Really appreciate that very much...

Also thanks to others who also posted replies..

lovestodance

I am very careful and aware about many products with high sodium and also carbs.. Always checking labels when I shop. I use to eat some of the WW dinners but most of them are high in sodium and carbs..

My main weakness is late evening have to curb my intake of some snacks at times. Also frustration with my life style changing so much in the past several years..

So that is also a factor which is bad for me...

lovestodance

I've know several people who tried Medi-Fast. They lost weight but all of them gained it back. One person became very ill due to the diet and had to discontinue it. I tried Nutrisystem once and found the breakfast choices and muffin/snack offerings to be awful but the canned entrees weren't bad; about like any food of that type from the grocery store. You still must supplement Nutrisystem with fresh fruits and veggies. I think Weight Watchers is by far the best diet plan.

I have 3 friends who have done Medi-Fast. They have not gained weight back and it has been at least a year for all of them. One has become a mentor for the program. My understanding is that it is quite expensive.

I'm doing Nutrisystem now, there's a wonderful support system now. I just spoke with a counselor this morning. There's a board board and all kinds of helpful foods. I was quite surprised at how good much of the food tastes. I like the variety too. I think people have to remember that the food isn't going to taste exactly like the real thing. That isn't possible. I had the pancakes for breakfast yesterday and duhhhhhh, they did not taste like my mother's buttermilk pancakes. But they were good. All two of them. The bacon bean soup, yeah, I'll put that in the "disgusting" category. Someone mentioned protein. The program tells us to add our own lean proteins (it gives us a list) and of course, our fruits and veggies. All in all, I am very very pleased. I do wish people would stop making up stuff about programs they have no personal knowledge of. What's up with that? Every single one of the meal replacement programs has a program that transitions dieters off the program and onto "real food". The problem is (and I know from personal experience) that there's a pyschology to obesity. We get so pumped up and happy with our success, that we forget that keeping the weight off is harder than losing it. We take the losing part of the programs very seriously but we don't take the transition part seriously. We think we know it all. We decide to go it alone and for some of us that's disasterous. And that's perfectly okay. Because successful dieting is much like stopping smoking. It rarely happens on the first or second try. But we do learn something with every attempt. Which makes the next attempt easier.

Very well stated, chrystaltree. I did NS once about 10 years ago. Lost weight quickly and fairly easily. I have also done Jenny Craig many times. 53 years old and still struggling. Must learn a way to keep it off.
