I have one that I rarely use anymore. I first got it when researching that NASA has studied and uses this on the Space Station to ward off bone loss during long periods of weightless.

Interesting about the lymphatic drainage.

Does anyone use these? I was introduced to one at a salon and while I don't think you can stand on a machine that vibrates for 10 minutes and lose weight and tone I did feel fantastic after I got off of it! The salon owner said it was good for your circulation, lymphatic system, helped boost collagen and energy, get rid of cellulite and helped with bone density, along with other claims.

I looked online and there are many to choose from and I just ordered one-just one you stand on with no handle bars (I can use a chair or whatever) for $75.00. I am excited to get it home because it felt great while I was on the machine and the rest of the day my legs felt energized. I can see how it is good for your circulation and as soon as I stood on it my core was definitely engaged!

There is one at my gym and I have used this type of machine rehabbing an injury. At the gym the unit is used in conjuction with other training and during my rehab I was doing other forms of exercise. I don't think you can expect desired results in fitness if this type of unit is the only thing you use for exercise.

I agree-I do not expect any results in fitness from it. I will continue with my cardio and weight training but I do want to use this at least to improve circulation-which I do think it will-and hopefully increase energy....I was skeptical but like I said-I felt fantastic after using it for 10 minutes and my legs and feet felt great the rest of the day. Any additional benefits it produced would also be appreciated!

Trixx-did you think it helped with your injury?

I started whole body vibration a few years ago. I was stuck in my office working long hours and felt like a slug.

My naturopath has a couple of machines you can choose from. Up to 20 minutes is only a couple of bucks. No committment or appointment, drop in during office hours.

Great for lymphatic drainage and very low speeds for gentle massage effects.

Start out slow, work your way up. I've been browing ads for a good used machine for home.

There is such a thing as toning. There are many resistance types of exercises that do not build muscle. I don't believe @pegsue is looking for muscle definition or vascularity, rather to refine muscles without increasing their size. Toned muscles are not, by definition, stronger, but contract and elongate with much less effort.

That is also why warm muscles function with less energy input than those with cooler blood running through them. You can see this by measuring the elongation or flexibility, of any big muscle(hamstring) cold, and then after exercise. If accurately measured, there can be a vast difference. This can also be seen through Oxygen Uptake/Carbon Dioxide Expelled Stress Texting using Pulmonary Cart Equipment.

There is a Physiological reason any competent Physical Therapist/Exercise Physiologist, or Licensed Trainer advises against stretching cold muscles and connective tissue, and the above-mentioned Pulmonary Testing Charts this out for those doing that test. I have done this many times.

I do agree with you however when you say, "sitting won't"

hckynut(john)

Isn't this the same concept of the gyms in the olden days where you see a woman standing with a strap around their behind and its shaking her entire body??

Just a quick Google search of "NASA study of Vibration Therapy" will give you lots of information. Also WebMD, LiveStrong and others site studies and information. Very credible sources indicate benefits from linear vibration exercise. No one that I have found suggests that it is a replacement for aerobics, weights, resistance or any other conventional physical activity.

hckynut-I wasn't diagnosed with any circulation problem but have noticed sometimes my feet or hands are especially cold, or tingling sometimes...I assume it comes with age...and I'm getting to that age, LOL. Plus I have a desk job, I try to get up regularly and walk around but sometimes you cannot do that....and just thought it would be a positive addition to healthy eating and exercising and if it happens to help with circulation, bone density, the lymphatic system, cellulite, stress-that would be a plus!

@pegsue

My hands have always been cold, way before I considered myself old. My wife liked chocolate at hockey games, but if a concession stand close to our seats was out? If I walked to a further stand, by the time I carried the cup back to her? It was "barely warm chocolate".

Tingling? Only if my arm or hands have been in a bent condition for a very long time. Don't know your age, and I never ask a lady. I think I am an old, but very young, 78 year old(chronologically speaking) man.

Since I have had Lung Blood Clots(PE) on 2 different occasions, I have had many Doppler/Nuclear, and other types of procedures done where "circulation" can be a big factor. That has never had anything to do with my "chronological age".

Hey, if you think something makes you feel better, go for it. I have never read where these types of things harm and/or injure a person. Guess I just wouldn't classify it as an active exercise. Passive maybe?

Best to you now,

hckynut(john)
