I do my best to keep moving most of the day, when I am home. If DH is home I seem to sit more. Summer time is easier to stay active, always yard work to do or I can get out and walk.

Today I got groceries at 8 am....and it's about 2:00 --I am ready to sit and have a cup of coffee. If I don't stay busy I feel like a slug.

My job requires me to sit in front of a computer most of the day, but there is a gym at work, so I either jog or lift weights at lunch time every day. After work, I either go to my "real" gym for a 2 hour workout, or I go straight home, eat dinner, then exercise or ride my bike when the weather permits. On the weekends, I only jog outside for 5 miles each day (no gym or weights). I hate the winter weather, but I don't let it stop me unless it gets below 20 degrees! (My down time is in the evening, and hour or two before bed.)

Hello @jubilant,

After my 1st heart attack, which included Aspiration Pneumonia, here is what I did come Fall. My event was on July 5th and heat and hydration (not dehydration) might have been part of the reason. When I got out of the hospital(8 days in ICU/4 days in Post ICU, and 3 days on heart floor), I started by walking outside our home.

Each day I timed my walk, not interested in distance covered. I did this 4-6 times every day, increasing the time a little when my heart rate did not go up. When I got up to 10 minutes, I started walking down, then back up our steep road, not all the way, as it was about 2 blocks each way.

Then I started walking on my treadmill changing the amount of time and elevation using my heart rate as my guide. Come Fall, I started ice skating 5 days a week. My Pulmonologist advised me to wear a mask covering my nose and mouth. My bout with the Aspiration Pneumonia left my lungs pretty scared, and I still had not got all of the fluid out of my lungs. I only mention the mask because you are breathing in warm, not cold air.

What brand is your new treadmill? Just curious as usual. Hey get to movin, no more excuses! I hope your recovery is working well for you. My best to you,

hckynut(john)

I won't lie. I sit more than I should, more than I want to. I know it's not healthy and it's one of the main reasons why I had knee replacement surgery. When my recovery is complete, I intend to get this body moving and grooving.

One needs some artificial cooling mechanism to cool your body.

Great to see you are walking both AM and PM, does that include rain and wind, just not the cold? If you are happy with your amount of movement, I am happy for you.

hckynut(john)

Yes,I walk in the rain, sleet and cold...no choice. I have dogs, who insist. I also live in a two story home and run up and down the steps all day long. My laundry is in the basement.

I also volunteer at school and I am up and down the stairs and out on the playground and take two family members to appointments and the grocery store...also carry the groceries in..up stairs at one house. So, I do get more excerise than the two walks, but the walks are always constant.

i can layer and layer and I am still cold. I don’t think my body makes too much heat. In the summertime when it is hot, my skin is cool. My feet are icy all year around, they always have been. I don’t need to be in the AC and would rather not be. When everyone is sweating, I a, comfortable. My father was like this too.

i swim almost every day in the summertime and I am looking to buy a paddle board.

my son is an ice hockey player too. He has been since he was a kid. Now my grand daughter plays hockey too. She’s is in 9th grade and Plays on the senior varsity team. She is about 5 ft tall at 100lbs and a little dynamo.

i like to be on the ice, but I have bad knees and I am afraid of falling. It is a great sport though.

wrote:

I won't lie. I sit more than I should, more than I want to. I know it's not healthy and it's one of the main reasons why I had knee replacement surgery. When my recovery is complete, I intend to get this body moving and grooving.

@chrystaltree

Good for you and best to you with your surgery. Is it both knees? When I couldn't use my lower body(patella Tendonitis for 3+ months), I used an upper body machine to get my heart rate up. It is similar to an Exercycle, but you grab the handles and use your arms/shoulders/chest and back muscles. It also has a tension(resistance adjustment) on it.

I had to go to Physical Therapy 3 times a week for a month and that is where I found this machine. It unfortunately was just a few days after I retired in 1991, not in my plans ad I was going to do more running! Bummer.

Hope all goes well for you

hckynut(john)
